Metal detector in the phone. They say it's a good thing, but I don't understand: where can it be applied with real benefits?
Smartphones in our lives have already begun to take up too much space (work, entertainment, communication, and almost a whole life there ...). But I never thought that gadgets could be used as separate devices, and even more so in relation to a construction site ...
Friends, a big hello to everyone. Honestly, I still consider myself to be a young man (33 years old, after all... π), and it seems, quite modern, but my phone has applications that bring me only some practical benefit (not a single game).
And I didn't look for them on purpose. A situation just arose β‘ accordingly a solution is needed β‘ and the application helps with this.
Although the choice is huge and for every taste.
And this becomes clear if you go to the application store (there are tens of thousands of them). But something really useful is very difficult to find. We have to hope for a lucky break.
β And then one day, I thought I was lucky.
I came across one video where a guy is doing wall decoration, and in order to fix something there he needs to drill the wall. In order not to get into the wiring, he finds its position, using the phone, and some kind of application on it.
It was a real surprise for me. And of course I decided to try what it is.
In terms of use, everything is simple, you do not need to configure anything, you just launch the application, and you're done.
I immediately decided to check: took an iron ruler and held it to the back, top of the phone.
The readings are off the charts, the phone vibrates, which means the device has detected metal.
β Everything works on the basis of a built-in magnetic sensor(the same compass on the phone works from it). But I hardly use a compass in my life (or rather never), but this metal detector can be useful.
However, the joy did not last long.
And so, where can you really notice this, other than pampering with a ruler?
β First of all, I want to find something hidden. And here the first nuance arises. At a distance of already 25 mm, the system cannot detect anything.
I donβt know what kind of wiring can I find in the wall ...
If only it goes along the surface itself, and from the room, it is separated only by wallpaper. And yes, it must also be steel π².
β Yes, this is the second, and it would seem, the most obvious nuance. The magnetic pickup reacts to metals that act on a magnetic field. And copper, and the same aluminum (these are two possible options for wiring) are diamagnets. Accordingly, even close to the phone, they do not give any reaction ...
β And finally, a trivial example, which generally casts doubt on the correctness of the application.
Just in the air, the phone shows that there is metal in front of it. But as you can see, it is not there.
In general, another useless application for the sake of advertising.
The only place where I see any benefit in it is simply to determine what kind of object is in front of you, iron or not (if there is no magnet at hand). But even that error, as you can see, is possible.
Friends, what do you think on this issue(maybe I somehow figured it out wrong, but you succeed)? Write in the comments, we will discuss.
