What is the difference between polyurethane foam and adhesive foam? What is stronger, is it possible to use polyurethane foam instead of glue, is it worth overpaying
During construction, planned repairs, it may be necessary to close up some cavities, cracks. There is a special composition for this - polyurethane foam. There is also glue-foam on sale. Both are supplied in cylinders. They work in almost the same way (with a pistol). They have the same consistency at first glance.
But there are differences between them. Each tool serves a specific purpose. What is the difference and which is stronger: foam glue or polyurethane foam?
Polyurethane foam - polyurethane sealant. There is a propellant inside, due to which the foam comes out. It serves to impart tightness, thermal insulation when installing doors, windows, etc.
Foam glue Is a polyurethane adhesive. It serves mainly for fixing insulation boards (expanded polystyrene).
Polyurethane foam can be 2-component or one-component. Adhesive foam is only one-component. Pros of polyurethane foam
: ease of use, resistance to temperature extremes. After solidification, it does not conduct electric current. But it cannot be used in wire insulation. When it comes out of the balloon, it is in a semi-liquid state. In this case, it will conduct current.Minuses MP (polyurethane foam): fear of moisture, ultraviolet radiation, difficult to remove from skin and clothing, you need to use the entire cylinder at once (short shelf life).
pros KP (foam glue): the highest adhesion (many times better than MP). Profitability (one cylinder for 10-13 square meters). An incompletely consumed adhesive foam can be stored in a cylinder for a whole year. Adhesive characteristics are higher than those of the assembly. Foam adhesive hardly increases when applied in volume. And the MP is more than doubled.
Can I use MP instead of CP?
It is quite possible, but you need to understand that the expansion of the MP is hefty and you need a load to make the connection tight. Minus KP: high price.
Which is stronger than adhesive foam or simple polyurethane foam?
An experiment was conducted on the Internet. Glued 2 pieces of polystyrene foam to a brick wall with foam glue and mounting. The glue withstood over 30 kg. The piece is firmly attached to the wall.
The same was done with polyurethane foam. The result was the same. Then they tried to tear off the pieces. A piece of foam glued to the polyurethane foam was more difficult to tear off.
So the difference between the two materials is only in expansion, adhesion. The glue hardly expands. In terms of adhesive characteristics, both are practically the same.
