Townhouse with an attic - good or evil

We live in a self-built townhouse with an attic. I can share my impressions. For those who do not know, a townhouse is a small apartment building, with a courtyard for every family. In our case, there are only 2 families. And there is more land than ordinary townhouses.

If you have enough money, it is better to build your own one-story house with an ordinary attic.

Do you want to live above the first floor? A problem appears called

Stairs

• She eats a few square meters

• Spoils the layout
• Finding a good ladder specialist is not easy

• You are constantly afraid for your children, lest they fall (and adults can fall)
• Usually the heat rises through the stairs, this must be taken into account when planning heating.

In short, with one floor, everything is simplified. If you still want two or three, then full-fledged floors (non-mansard) are better.

The idea to mold two or more houses into one and use the space under the roof for housing comes from the desire to save money.

What is saved in our version

1. Instead of two full-fledged walls, one partition with sound insulation.
2. One water intake
3. One septic tank
4. Instead of full-fledged walls of the second floor, there are two gables and 2 insulated roof slopes (as planned). With roof windows. And the partition.

You can not rush to insulate the attic, if there is not enough money, insulate the ceiling and that's it, until better times. We lived with a non-insulated attic for 5 years.

In our eyes, saving is good. I saved it, it means I earned it.

Than bad

Attic floor - problems in all directions:

1. Stingrays are more difficult to plan rooms, they eat up space
2. Not everyone succeeds in making insulation, sound insulation, as expected. Lots of mistakes in these matters.
3. Insulation is usually not as durable as walls.
4. It can get hot in the attic in the summer if something is not thought of.
5. Skylights are covered with snow in winter.

What else is bad about our townhouse? Yes, nothing! If people in both families are adequate, no problem. There is nothing to share. Electricity is different for everyone. For rare pump repairs, etc. you can chip. Agree on well maintenance.

In general, it is not difficult to agree on everything.

Therefore, it is my firm opinion that all problems inside people. Bad can only be from someone's, how to put it mildly, dishonesty.
