Six models of chiseled handles for furniture and doors, developed over 100 years ago
Someone might think that this is the last century, everything is outdated, they don’t do that now. I agree - they don't.
I needed a wooden knob for the interior door and I decided to see what I can buy now.
It turned out that there is not much choice: in the nearest stores where they sell door fittings, you can find several simple options for wooden birch handles and they did not suit me.
Okay, I think there is a lathe and I can grind the necessary handles myself. For inspiration, I decided to look for pictures of beautiful pens on the Internet... and also did not find anything that I liked.
Then I decided to turn to the experience of old masters and found 6 models of interesting chiseled pens in a 1919 turning manual.
Dimensions here are in inches. Converting them to millimeters is not particularly difficult. You can also use inch rulers.
And you can do it by looking at the picture. The proportions in the drawing are maintained and it is quite possible to repeat the appearance of the handle.
I made this pen just by looking at the drawing. It turned out similar, but not entirely accurate.
I am still mastering the turning business and I do not have enough skills yet. I made the first pens on trial. I used various incisors to understand for myself which shape would be more convenient to make.
I want to try to make the final versions strictly according to the drawing.
Well, the drawings above, I hope they will be useful to you.
