Can a well pipe be used as grounding?

Usually, to create a ground loop, a trench (linear or triangle) is dug next to the house, driven into it pipes or corners, tied with a metal strip (for bolted connection or welding) and connect the earth wire from shield.

To do this, you need to purchase a steel corner, carry out work with the ground. The work, not to say that it is difficult, but also not quite simple. And with the cost of metal - certain costs. Are there other options to make a reliable grounding with a low resistance below 30 Ohm (as required by the PUE for private houses)?

If you have a well with a steel casing near your house or under your house, then this is still a more suitable grounding loop with a resistance, sometimes below 4 ohms (as required by the PUE for substations).

According to PUE clause 1.7.109, casing pipes of wells can be used as natural grounding conductors.

But there are a number of recommendations. The ground wire must have a cross-section of at least 25 mm2 and must be in reliable PVC insulation. Should be at a depth of at least 0.5-0.7 m from the surface of the earth. The connection of the wire to the pipe is possible both for welding and for bolting. It is better to cover the contact point with graphite grease (prevention of contact corrosion).

But this method has a number of doubts about its feasibility. For example, there are fears that with leakage currents, corrosion will intensify in the steel pipe itself, especially in the places where pipes are welded. But experts write that with the TT grounding scheme, the currents on the electrode (pipe) will be absent, or will be extremely small. And this will not affect the speed of the metal electrocorrosion process in any way.

The efficiency of the grounding loop from the well pipe decreases if the well is located far from the house. The resistance of the wire increases. If it is more than 30 ohms, then it is more advisable to make a ground loop near your building.
