Why are dresser drawers falling out?

Any furniture, if it is made of high quality, faithfully serves its owners for many years. But even she has flaws over time, caused by intensive exploitation. This is especially true of drawers, because each of them is pulled out and pushed back several times during the day, taking out some thing.

Over time, you begin to notice that the boxes no longer slide easily and naturally along the roller guides, as they used to, but begin to fall through.

This situation arises every time you need to take something out of the chest of drawers. Agree that constantly messing around, trying to put the box “on the rails”, is not a pleasant occupation, especially when you are in a hurry somewhere. And now, having “played enough” enough, you decide to take drastic measures, that is, to do repairs.

If you thought that roller guides need replacing, then you are wrong. It is not at all necessary to immediately purchase new fittings and spend extra money. First of all, inspect by looking deep inside the cabinet. Move the box back and forth and you will see a small wheel jump off the skids. Why is this happening? Most likely because the distance between the guides has increased. Even a few millimeters will play a role, and now the further operation of the furniture does not bring joy.

What you need to have on hand so that the cabinet drawers no longer fall out

To fix the problem, you will need a few details and, most likely, you will find them at home. So, prepare a plastic dowel of small diameter, a sharp knife and a screwdriver or a screwdriver. The last tool will allow you to cope with the task much faster, I think every owner has it in use.

Let's get down to business. Cut the dowel into rings 5-6 mm high. Remove the drawer and set aside. Push the finished rings (2-3 pieces) with a knife between the skids and the wall of the cabinet, they should be opposite the hole.

Now we fasten the guides with self-tapping screws (15-16 mm), trying to get into the ring of the self-tapping screw.

As a result, the distance between the skids and the wall of the furniture increases, as we can see by looking from the side.

Now we check the work by inserting the box into place. As expected, the issue has been resolved.
