How to clear the roof of snow with a simple rope - the father told and showed how he does it
Winter is the time when we test the strength of the construction.Do you know that the mass of 1 m3 of dry loose snow is approximately 120 kg? And denser wet snow weighs 3-5 times more! Not every roof can withstand such a load. And if the roofs of houses are usually prepared for the most severe weather conditions, then the roof of garages, sheds, summer kitchens, greenhouses is usually less durable. Therefore, in winter it must be cleaned of snow without fail.
In general, it is better to clear any roof from snow. Firstly, do not take risks and check the roof in the cold season. Secondly, it is worth reducing the likelihood of a snow or ice block falling on your head.
How to clear the roof of snow? Climb onto the roof with a shovel? This is risky and inconvenient. There are other ways. It's good that everything has been invented for a long time before us. I'll show you how my father does it.
In Siberia and the Urals, people have been using a fairly simple method for clearing roofs for decades. This method is efficient, convenient and free. We are talking about clearing one-story buildings - small houses or outbuildings with a pitched roof.
All it takes is:
- A rope of sufficient length
- Cargo. For example, a hammer or a plastic half-liter bottle half-filled with water.
- Two pairs of hands, i.e. two people.
How to clear the roof of snow with a rope
The meaning of the method is to cut through a layer of snow with the help of a rope, i.e. violate its integrity. Approximately the same way they "cut" oil briquettes in the USSR, and polystyrene.
- It is necessary to make a rope with a huge loop from below along the edge of the roof along the ridge - 2 - 5 -7 meters (how much you can physically stretch yourself).
- The load must be thrown over the roof. If the roof has two slopes, then along the ridge. If the roof is hipped, you need to position the rope so that it is at the top of one side of the roof.
- Next, the rope must be pulled at both ends. Two people should pull alternately, as if working with a two-handed saw. Back and forth with an amplitude of about a meter.
- The rope cuts through the layer, the upper part itself falls off due to the weight.
- Have time to move away from the avalanche descending from the roof.
Anticipating questions in the comments in advance:"Yes" - the method works only in frost, because wet snow will not cut through. AND "No" - you can't clear the road like that, this method only works on flat surfaces with a sufficient slope, like roofs (not flat ones).
Now this method will be relevant not only for Siberians, but also for the southern part of Russia, because. judging according to the news, the Krasnodar Territory and the Crimea really felt what a real snowy winter!
