How to make my heat exchanger hermetic (condensate drain, sealant gaskets...)? I continue my experiment, the result is in the face.
If you have already begun to "sculpt" everything from improvised means, and various remnants, then you need to continue in the same spirit. Moreover, the result seems to be quite satisfactory ...
Friends, hello everyone. Well, here they are the final touches, and my homemade recuperator will be ready. It remains only to solve a few important tasks on which its normal operation will depend.
By the way, here are the previous articles on this topic, in case you missed them. Read how you end up with this...
I am draining the condensate.
Yes, the same condensate that many scared me with can be easily removed from the recuperator 😜. At the same time, I did not make any special pallets, but organized everything in the building itself.
- First, it's a design. I made the lower wall of the recuperator at an angle, according to this scheme.
- The drain holes themselves were simply made in the body and put there on the sealant, hose adapters.
It turns out that the recuperator is divided into three independent compartments, so I made a drain in each.
It remains to seal everything. It didn't work out so well here.
In general, silicone sealant and XPS are incompatible things, since the adhesion between them is very weak. I realized this when I already went through all the joints and corners of my recuperator.
Even with a little effort, all the sealant could be removed with one "stocking". But I didn’t want to redo it, and in principle, even the minimum adhesion of the sealant was enough for me to seal the joints (everything will be under pressure).
✔ To calm the soul, the lower part of the body(where will all the water be), the hedgehog passed with aluminum tape.
❗❗❗ So they had to glue everything initially, the thing is just great: and seals, and sticks remarkably.
Now all that's left to do is cover it up.
- Of course, it was possible to make everything deaf in a circle, but somehow it will be necessary to serve my creation, so the lid is required. I made it on ordinary hinges and with clamping latches.
- And in places where the cover fits to the body, I made a gasket, from the same silicone sealant.
It's easy to do: missed the perimeter of the case with sealant, on the very cover of the place of adhesion glued with adhesive tape (so that the silicone does not stick), and docked both elements. The sealant fills all the gaps, and after drying it turns into a gasket.
Everything seems to be provided, it's time to hang this thing in place.
But these are friends, as you understand, a separate topic for conversation. So more details in the following articles...
I look forward to your opinion in the comments. Share your thoughts and experiences, it's always helpful.
