How to cut a ceiling plinth in a corner with perfect precision. I'll tell you a simple secret
Ceiling plinths confidently entered our lives a few years ago and continue to hold their positions as a highly decorative finishing method that has long been is used not only for decorating the ceiling, but also for giving expressiveness to wall panels, for making baguette frames for paintings and mirrors, during the restoration of an old furniture.
Easy to use and process, the material allows you to get the texture of rich stucco, expensive wood carving or leather embossing. But the whole impression of the original finish will come to naught if the joints of the plinths are noticeable.
It would seem that it is simpler: measure at an angle of 45 ° and connect the surfaces of the skirting boards. It turns out that for planes located at an angle to the surface of the finish, the connection angle is calculated differently, and for the correct calculation it will take a long time to remember the entire school mathematics course. But there is an easy and simple way to accurately measure the angle at which you need to cut the ceiling plinth, and it will work even if the corners in your apartment are not very even.
Skirting preparation
Attach the plinth to the corner or surface on which you plan to fix it, embossed front the surface will be in front of you, and the vertical and horizontal back surfaces will be adjacent to the walls and ceiling. Outline the edge of the plinth with a thin pencil.
On the second wall, on which the joining plinth will be placed, attach the second part and outline it. The point of intersection of the two lines will be the maximum to be marked on the baseboards.
Again, attach both skirting boards in turn, now marking the point of intersection of the lines on them. From the point you just marked, draw a straight line to the bottom corner. This will be the cut line. If you are modeling an outer corner, then you need to mark both the upper intersection point and the lower one, which coincides with the beginning of the corner. The cut will need to be done at these points.
Carefully cut along the line with a sharp knife. Do this operation with the second plinth.
Be sure to check the correct fit before gluing, especially if there are decorative curly elements on the baseboard.
Gluing the plinth
Ceiling plinths are made of a porous polymer material, this must be taken into account when choosing an adhesive that is suitable for such a material.
The skirting board will be attached to the wall and ceiling only by the sides, so there is no need to apply a weighting adhesive to the entire back surface. Apply glue only to the contact parts.
Bring the skirting board to the ceiling and fix it by pressing it lightly.
The adhesive composition, which will come out at the edges, must be rubbed with a thin rubber spatula or finger into the seam between the baseboard and the contact surface. Excess glue must be removed.
Try to do all the work at this stage carefully, as all the bumps will be visible even after staining. Do not pinch the plinth to avoid its deformation.
The seam between the docked skirting boards must also be sealed with adhesive. After completing the work, gently wipe the skirting boards with a cloth, being careful not to move them. Leave to dry completely, and after a few days you can start painting.
This method will allow you to design not only ceiling joints, but also make original baguette frames, decorative cornices and panels, for the manufacture of which porous PVC ceilings are used plinth.
