I learned an easy way to get rid of a blockage in the sink. All you need is a plastic bottle and a little ingenuity

From time to time, the water drainage system in the apartment cannot cope with the constant load, and the water stops flowing into the sewer. Often the cause of poor drainage is that the drain, pipe or siphon is clogged with a buildup of solids and grease. This can happen anywhere: in the sink, shower tray or toilet, and even absolutely correct installation does not guarantee that the pipe will never become clogged.

Often the blockage is due to the curved design of the siphon, which collects insoluble particles in its reservoir. When fat solidifying in cold water joins them, the siphon is blocked by a small plug, which makes it difficult for water to pass. A plunger usually helps to cope with such an education, but what if there is no such device in the apartment?

You can try to get rid of a small blockage with the help of improvised means. A plastic bottle is suitable for this. If you need to get rid of a blockage in a sink or pan with a small drain hole, a 2 liter bottle will do, and a larger bottle will be needed to clean the toilet.

We cut off the lower third from the bottle with a sharp knife or scissors, it will not be needed. And the upper part with the neck is tightly twisted with a lid. Try to make the cut as even as possible so that water does not seep through the holes at the edge.

This device will play the role of an improvised plunger and create a directed water hammer of small force, which will push the plug in the pipe.

First tilt the bottle and fill it with water, and then stand it upright and move it so that it covers the hole completely. As a result of these actions, the column of water in the bottle will be significantly higher than the water level in the sink.

The created column of water should push through the resulting plug. To do this, with a frequency of 2 times per second, begin to make back-and-forth movements and push water into the hole. This may require several minutes of intensive work with the bottle.

Check from time to time to see if the drain has resumed. This can be indicated by the formed funnel on the surface of the water.

This method will not cope with all types of blockages, and you may still need the help of a plumber to get the drain working, but in case of a loose plug in the pipe, it will be effective.

In order to clean the toilet, a 3 liter plastic bottle is suitable, it just matches the diameter of the drain hole. It will be necessary to cut it in the same way and perform back-and-forth pushing movements.

It is impossible to damage the pipes in this way, so you can use it in all cases when the flow is disturbed. The force of the water hammer will be small, and neither the pipes nor the siphon will suffer from it. If the result is still not achieved, then the blockage consists of a dense accumulation of insoluble elements (hair, fat particles, food residues), which may require the assistance of a plumber and additional tools or equipment.
