Russian space startup Destinus raises $29 million to develop hypersonic drone
A Russian space startup called Destinus, which was founded by the former owner of Technosila, M. Kokorich, was able to raise about $29 million to develop his own version of a hypersonic drone. So, let's find out what kind of apparatus and for what purposes they will be developed in Russia.
The popularity of hypersound is gaining momentum around the world
Many companies around the world have joined the so-called race for hypersound. So, in particular, Leap Aerospace, Boom Supersonic, and Lockheed Martin are actively developing their hypersonic aircraft.
The use of such aircraft in the future will make it possible to travel, for example, from Moscow to New York in just a few hours of flight.
But supersonic can make a form revolution not only in passenger transportation, but also in cargo transportation. And in this regard, the Russian startup Destinus decided to go much further, and the engineers decided to develop a unique hybrid of aircraft and missiles.
What kind of drone will be developed by a Russian company
So the company has raised some pretty hefty funds to try and build a workable version of an unmanned aircraft. with a combined turbojet hydrogen engine, which the founder of the company describes as a unique hybrid of an aircraft and a rocket.
According to the idea, this device will take off like a regular plane, and already at a given height at the device will turn on the jet engine, which will take the drone already beyond atmosphere.
So in this way, the company plans to carry out the delivery of goods with a maximum weight of up to 10 tons. And if everything goes according to plan, then the first full-fledged prototype of the drone should be ready in the current 2022. Well, test flights have already taken place a few months ago.
Who might need such a hypersonic drone
So, according to the representatives of the company, their product may well be in demand among logistics and aviation companies.
Of course, we all want to receive our parcels and orders as quickly as possible, and it seems to me that such a hypersonic the drone can be in demand only if the cost of delivery is not much higher than the existing ones options. Otherwise, it (hypersonic drone) will be unclaimed.
In any case, I would like to wish the domestic startup success in its work, and that their future hypersonic drone actively travel around the world, fulfilling a large number of orders.
