Now, it's time to figure out how everything works.

And it seems to me that you need to start with what the principle of water purification is based on in my home-made system.

Initially, looking at the water from my Abyssinian, I was sure that the main problem was the high iron content.

But various methods of oxidation (aeration, addition of hypochlorite) did not help.

Even more delving into the topic, I realized that you need to start with something else.

All oxidation methods can be interfered with by the presence of organic matter in the water (

✅ This is what needs to be dealt with in the first place.Here I learned about the cleaning method using a coagulant.

In my system, I use Aqua-Aurat 30. According to the manufacturer, it is intended for cleaning water in swimming pools, and can even be used for drinking water.

When this substance is added to water, all impurities and contaminants (even very small) bind into large flakes, and quickly precipitate.

In general, this coagulant is unpretentious to the application temperature (what can you say about analogues), but there is still an important characteristic on which the effect of the coagulant depends. This is the pH level of the water.

❗ In addition, the coagulant itself affects this indicator, lowering ph. And the normal operating range of Aqua-Aurat in an environment with a ph of 7 to 9.

✅ Therefore, I had to additionally alkalize the water. For this I used caustic soda (this is a very strong lye. I bought flakes in loose form, and made a solution)

My next task was to find the optimal dosage.

And it took time.

At first I tried to calculate everything in miniature.

But the final amount and ratio of the funds used was selected on the assembled system.

• As a result, coagulation allows you to purify water not only from organic matter, but from other contaminants that mechanical filters are unable to catch.
• At the same time, Aqua-Aurat also disinfects water (according to the manufacturer).
• And the addition of caustic soda also helps to soften the water (which was confirmed in the analyzes).

They ask me: "Isn't it scary to get involved with any chemistry?"

Firstly, the products that I talked about have long been used in the purification of tap water, which everyone uses very well. And I bought from not on the "black market", but in a store specializing in water treatment.

Secondly, I understand that all my dosages are made by eye. But I'm going to use water only for domestic purposes (there will be another one for drinking)

But testing is one thing, the main thing is to make a working automatic system.
