I no longer suffer with redheads! A simple trick that helped eliminate rust for a long time

Not only rainwater or melted snow causes rust on cars, but also the reagents that are sprinkled on roads to get rid of ice. On older cars, corrosion affects cars due to the poor quality of painting, ineffective protection of metal from corrosion. Particularly affected by the car is its lower part: the bottom, wheel arches, lower edges of the body. How to protect your vehicle from premature failure? Below we consider several types of anti-corrosion protection.

How to protect your car from rust?

Rust is iron hydroxide. The substance is loose, literally crumbling in the hands. It is formed as a result of the combination of iron with oxygen and water. This means that in order to prevent a chemical reaction leading to the formation of a worthless chemical compound, it is necessary to block the contact of the bare metal of the machine with oxygen. In part, this function is successfully performed by paint with primers. But insidious rust penetrates from the inside, gets to the bottom.

However, enough lengthy discussions about chemistry, let's move on to practical recommendations. To work, you will need a pit or a more modern lift to see the wheel arches and the bottom. These areas of the car are a reservoir of dirt, which, like a sponge, absorbs and retains water. Therefore, first you need to thoroughly wash the bottom and lower parts of the body. Now that the car is clean, you will see where the insidious rust has formed. It has to be cleaned with sandpaper or a metal brush. Only then is an anti-corrosion coating applied.

This tool is of two types:

  • Rubber-bitumen. It is inexpensive in price, but short-lived, easily damaged by stones falling from under the wheels.
  • Butyl rubber is more durable and more expensive.

When choosing a cheap tool, you need to take into account that the anti-corrosion treatment of the bottom will have to be done more often.

Rust converters

Treatment of rust pockets with such a converter will not be superfluous, neither from inside the car, nor from the outside. Rust insidiously watches over the metal in areas where water tends to collect, and where the thinnest layer of protection is. These are the edges of the doors and the hood, the edge of the body, the thresholds that are not protected by plastic, etc.

But for starters, it will be useful to treat these parts of the car with a rust converter. It will remove the slightest foci of the formation of insidious oxide.

Please note that there are also two types of rust converter:

Removers, or to be more precise, rust removers. They are good for removing rusty clothes in everyday life: from bathtubs, sinks, faucets;

Rust converters. They are then used for the processing of iron in cars.

Of these converters, I recommend the following brands to car owners:

  • AVS
  • "Tsinkar".
  • ABRO
  • ELTRANS

To save money and save processing time, you should first clean the place where rust appears with a wire brush or coarse sandpaper. And the rust converter will complete the process. You should not expect a miracle, of course, the converter will not restore the metal thickness to the factory settings. Therefore, you should start caring for the car immediately, before rust has time to appear on it. The converter eats rust out of the recesses and forms a protective film that prevents further corrosion.

Important. When working with rust converters, be sure to wear gloves, as all rust converters contain corrosive acid.

After processing with the converter, the treated area can be primed and painted over. And if this is the bottom, then treat it with anticorrosive.
