The first module of the Russian orbital station can be launched into space as early as 2026, but it will take a lot of effort
The timing of the launch of the first module of the new Russian orbital station into near-Earth orbit was expressed by the Director General of the Roscosmos corporation D. Rogozin.
So, according to him, the first block, quite possibly, will be launched in four years (by 2026), but this will require a lot of effort.
Russian Orbital Service Station (ROSS) and its prospects
Experts believe that in the future the Russian Orbital Service Station may well replace the International a space station that has already been in operation for more than 20 years, and by and large, the period of its accident-free use is approaching by the end.
Also, according to D. Rogozin, there is still no final decision on the ISS to extend its use after 2024. But earlier, experts calculated that with proper maintenance of the ISS station, it could last until 2030.
For reference. ROSS is an orbital station planned for construction, which, according to the plan, should replace the ISS. The project is being developed by specialists from RSC Energia. Initially, the station will include the NEM and UM modules, which were originally designed for the ISS, and at the next stage two more modules will be added: a gateway and a transformable one. As a result, the station should be implemented from five modules with a total weight of about 60 tons.
So it is not surprising that even now in the Russian Federation they are developing the project of their own national station.
So, according to the original idea, the ROSS station will be implemented according to the well-proven modular principle. Also, for the implementation of the domestic project, the manned systems Progress, as well as Soyuz, will be used.
But it is also planned to come to grips with the development and testing of new spacecraft and carriers.
Well, we will closely monitor how work will be carried out on the domestic space station and its deployment in near-Earth orbit.
