As a rule, platform wheels are covered with a protective polymer or flocked layer, which will protect the flooring from accidental damage. But it is this layer that is the first to fail with regular use of the chair, and the platform begins to scratch the floor. The use of carpets does not always improve the dynamic characteristics of the chair, and such a comfortable (and sometimes expensive) chair will have to be replaced with a new one, perhaps more budget-friendly just to get a new wheeled platform with wheel protection that won't scratch laminate or other flooring anymore. coating.

Replacing the protective layer on articulated wheels

Turn the chair over and carefully examine all the wheels, if foreign elements have gathered on them, remove them. If the protective coating has worn off evenly, there is no need to remove it from the wheels, but if on the working grooves, cracks, scraps of material are noticeable on the surface of the wheel, then you will have to completely remove the protective layer from wheels. This can be done with a knife or coarse sandpaper.

On the cleaned surface of the wheel, apply a layer of electrical tape, pulling it slightly and trimming along the outer edge. On the inner surface of the wheel, the electrical tape will protrude slightly.

Due to the plastic protector, it will be possible to apply 2-4 layers. You need to choose the winding height based on the ability of the wheel to rotate freely under the tread surface.

The electrical tape is neatly cut and pressed well with a finger to the working surface of the wheel. This will further avoid accidental peeling and unwinding during operation.

The free edge along the inner surface of the wheel is tucked inward and glued to the back surface of the wheel.

The procedure must be repeated on all wheels of the movable platform, trying to observe the same number of layers of winding tape on the wheel. This will ensure equal dynamic characteristics of the wheels and achieve uniform sliding on the floor.

One roll of electrical tape will create a soft protective layer on 5-6 double wheels of a standard diameter. Such a layer, in terms of its performance, will not yield to a flocked or polyurethane layer and will help save money on buying a new office chair.
