The future Russian orbital station will have a centrifuge for cosmonauts
Design work on the future Russian Orbital Service Station (ROSS) is in full swing, and now it became known that the design of the short radius centrifuge was approved.
This became known from the official communication of academician O. Orlova (Director of the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences). About what kind of device it is and why it is needed and will be discussed in the current material.
ROSS will have its own centrifuge
According to the plan, the Russian Orbital Service Station is to replace the International Space Station, which has been in operation for more than 20 years. And according to the engineers, the new complex will have a block construction principle.
In the design of the ROSS, it was also decided to take into account a short-acting centrifuge, which will help restore blood circulation, as well as other functions of the cosmonauts' body.
So, according to scientists, such a design may well become a key element in on-board prevention systems in spacecraft designed for interplanetary flights.
And at the moment, space agencies of many countries are developing their versions of centrifuges. But before such installations appear on orbital stations, certain difficulties must be solved. In particular, it is necessary to solve the problem of constructing a stand directly in orbit.
So earlier, calculations were carried out to install such a design on the ISS, but were discontinued, as there were concerns due to increased risks of dynamic impact on the entire station.
The space race is only gaining momentum, and therefore it is extremely important to have your own station in low Earth orbit and a set of unique technologies.
