Whether to follow the advice of carpenters from YouTube

Recently I watched on YouTube different videos from various woodworkers - always useful to learn from knowledgeable people.

This is not a joke or sarcasm. In fact, you can find a lot of useful and practical.

I found a lot of interesting ideas and opinions... often the opposite way, and sometimes too categorical. But then the head need to analyze, compare, validate and receive your own opinion.

My principle is - is it possible to get a result and how this result and the way it is received is acceptable for me.

Let me explain. For example, seen the statement that without the jointer (Planer) at a workshop to do nothing and can not be called a carpenter that has any jointer. Categorically somehow.

A task that helps solve the jointer - getting the right geometry, I successfully solve and electroplane device for him or using furniture panels.

Met another "categorical" statement, that pine is better not to work, with clear explanations -why not - is not given. In contrast, just today come across videos where the master tells how you can make thread of pine, with clear explain what difficulties you may encounter and what skills to do needed.

In my view, such categorical statements are misleading and discourage a person's desire to work with his hands. Well, of course, you need to invest in tools 100 thousand or even more material and take 30-50 thousand per cubic meter. Somehow expensive hobby, or simply try their hand... On the other hand I met the saying that of course you can make and hand tools, such as a stool, but it will take weeks or even months. Also somehow far from the truth. :-)

The reality is somewhat different. I have had such experience about 20 years ago, when two days I restored 4 chairs from which there were only the back and seat. Ie 2 days I made a frame for 4 chairs from old boards that are sawed into bars along the normal hacksaw, whittling manual plane grooves made chisel and sandpaper polished on the bar.

Summarize. Tips you need to listen to, but it is important think for themselves, To understand the problem and the result you want. I'm pretty long run my channel on YouTube where I share their experience, so I checked personally. And I am pleased to see when people write in the comments that have tried to do as I said, but made their own changes and additions. Immediately obvious - a person thinks and gets his own experience.
