How to recover from a broken handle of the knife.

For quite a long time to buy a set of kitchen knives with plastic handles. Over time, these plastic handles began to fall apart. Apparently this plastic.

We had to do something about it and I decided to make a handle of wood instead of broken.

Plastic handle fastened on the blade by means of rivets and metal parts of the knife from the holes remained these rivets. These holes I decided to use for attaching a wooden handle, but I did not want them to be through. The solution was simple.

In one of the strips pasted dowels, smeared it with glue, including boring machine, and put on the blade of a knife. The second part is also smeared with glue and combined with the first and clamps tightened. For gluing use PVA carpenter dries it gives a clear stitch here though this turns out very thin seam.

When the glue has dried, grinding off all unnecessary. Polished very carefully to his hand was comfortable. Then soaked with linseed oil. And that's what happened:

By the way, you can still be impregnated by paraffin candles, then just have a good warm knob to paraffin gone deeper into the wood, and then polished.

This handle is used for longer than plastic. The handle on the photo for more than 6 years, and the plastic began to fall apart for the third year.
