The plumber told how to "pack" the taps so that they would not flow later
I prefer to do repairs in the house with my own hands. When I see that a specialist is working at the facilities, I do not miss the opportunity to observe the work and ask a couple of questions. Some are pissed off. Others willingly share their experiences.
This time I got into a conversation with a plumber. He talked about the mistakes that self-taught masters often make. He showed how to properly "pack" cranes and other fittings: corners, tees, crosses, etc. Many problems can be solved by following one simple tip.
Do not repeat other people's mistakes
A man twists a faucet or an angle fitting onto a pipe at home. To correctly position the element, it remains to make only half a turn. But he is going very hard. We squeeze, and the fitting cracks. We must go to the store for a new one.
It's good if the failure of the fitting is accompanied by a characteristic click. But it happens that the crane bursts soundlessly and the crack is located so that it is not immediately visible. In this case, we learn about the leak only when we completely assemble the system.
Another case. We twist the tap onto the pipe. We planned to make another turn, but the thread ended. The fitting has rested. You can, of course, make a third of a turn back, but what happens to the tightness?
If we pack on flax with sealing paste, adjusting the fitting position is permissible. The connection will be reliable. At the same time, self-taught masters for some reason give preference to modern fum tapes. In this case, the fitting cannot be turned back. The joint will surely flow.
Do it right
The plumber's advice was: “Before we pack the fitting, screw it onto the thread without sealing and count the revolutions. When we pack the valve with a seal, we also count the turns. We do not tighten the last turn to the stop, but use it to position the fitting correctly. "
If there are several turns left, and the valve is screwed on very tightly, two options are possible:
- The flax can be twisted to the end and the fitting can be positioned on the last turn. The excess seal will be squeezed out.
- The tap on the fum tape must be correctly positioned immediately, when we have reached the "tight loop".
How many fum tapes to wind in order to tightly seal the connection is a topic for a separate conversation. If today's article was helpful to you, do not forget to support it with like. Subscribe to a channel here. Click on the link - join. There is still a lot of interesting things ahead.
