What is "oil" and why is it in every home?

In the last article I talked about the material invented by Soviet engineers babbit, and the article literally blew up Zen - there were a lot of comments, including people asked me, what is oil.

Oily is also a very curious substance that belongs to the group of antifriction materials. In simple words, oil is unique self-lubricating material.
It is made of polymers (products of the oil industry and plastic recycling) and is mass-produced near Voronezh.

Very strong ability to self-lubricate during friction and determined the name oily - during heating, friction and even slight deformation, microscopic drops of lubricant appear on the surface of the oil.

This allows the use of oil in the sewer pipes - for better passability of large drains. So it is very likely that the plastic pipes in your apartment or country house are also made of oil. And it is often used to make elements of furniture fittings. There is a 90% chance of having it in your home.

But this is nonsense compared to the main field of application - plain bearings and water locks. The largest objects where oil is used are hydroelectric power plants. For example, Sayano-Shushenskaya or Nizhnekamskaya HPP.
