“Why dowels for insulation, if there is glue?” - So I thought until it came down to business. Let me tell you how this little thing simplifies your work.
It seems so simple: I applied glue to the insulation, leaned against it, and everything stuck. But this happens only in beautiful videos, far from reality.
Friends ✌, the process of warming the foundation in my house continues.
After preparing the foundation, it's time to start the process itself.
All background on my channel.
For insulation, I chose extruded polystyrene foam, 50 mm thick.
The sequence is very simple:
- I apply glue to the insulation plate.
- And I apply to the foundation ...
But what's next ???
Then you need to do the same with the next sheet, but there is one problem.
- Firstly, the surface is not perfectly flat, and the insulation does not fit snugly in it.
- Secondly, the glue does not set right away. In order for it to securely fix the sheet, you need to sit and hold it ...
This is where a simple but useful thing helped.
Dowels for insulation, this is where it is very useful to use them.
I sprinkled the lower part of the sheet with sand, but on top I just applied these fasteners.
Since the sheets of insulation, in addition to the foundation itself, also covered part of the aerated concrete, it was in it that I fixed the dowels. I drilled it with an ordinary drill, and shoved the fasteners.
✅ And I used the cheapest, plastic option. And not a single dowel broke, everyone held the sheets securely.
❗ In my case, their task was precisely the initial fastening until the glue seizes. Therefore, there is simply no point in buying expensive ones with a metal core ...
The end result is this view.
The first part of the work is done, now you can move on to the blind area.
