Today I will tell you about the substance that must be used before hypochlorite.

In previous articles, I said that my goal is to get clear water for technical use in the house.

But before using an oxidizing agent such as sodium hypochlorite, which converts dissolved iron (invisible to the eye) into undissolved (visible), you need to purify water from organic matter. Otherwise, this process is long, and you can still get toxic organic compounds with chlorine.

All substances that give such color to water have an undissolved form. Roughly speaking, they swim there and spoil the view. And the easiest way is to filter them mechanically.

✅ But some particles are so small that no filter will catch them. But here, too, there is a way out. You just need to "glue" these small particles together to be able to catch them.

Coagulation is the way out.

For this, special substances are used - coagulants.

I bought such a company.

• This is the powder from which the solution is made. It is added to polluted water in small quantities, but it does wonders.

• In just a few minutes, flakes are formed, which precipitate in a few hours.

Having done the same with a large volume of water in a barrel, we get clear water at the exit.

And here, you can use sodium hypochlorite oxidation.

The fact that the water is clear does not mean that it will remain so. If left on for several days, it will turn yellow, due to the dissolved iron, which will oxidize from oxygen.

But we will speed up the processby adding sodium hypochlorite, we get instant results.

Iron is immediately oxidized, and precipitates as quickly, in a few hours, which is further filtered as well.

But all these experiments are good in buckets, and how to automate this is another question.
