A simple yet useful tool from a ruler and a wooden strip

I decided to make the simplest tool that will be very useful for marking. Having spent a little of my time, I got a good marking gauge, the idea of ​​which I will now share with you.

For this simple homemade product, I needed an ordinary metal ruler, two pieces of the rail (100 mm long, 40 mm wide and 10 mm thick) and a 6 mm mustache nut.

Taking an 18 mm diameter pen drill, I drilled a hole in the center of the first bar to a depth of about 2 mm and then made a through hole with a regular drill 8.

Then he pressed in the barb nut with a vise and, in order to drown it a little, put the usual M10 nut.

Thus, the first part of the homemade tool was ready. Putting the rail aside, I took a ruler and glued double-sided tape to it.

Then he put the ruler on the sandpaper and cut it off along the edges of the ruler with a clerical knife.

After that, I again glued double-sided tape to the ruler, but on the other side, and fixed it on the table. Parallel to the ruler, to the left and right of it, I installed two slats, the distance between which is equal to the length of the slats (100 mm).

All these manipulations were needed in order to make a small groove in the second rail, into which the ruler would fit very accurately.

It was possible to take a chisel, but using this method, the groove turned out to be of the required depth and the ruler went clearly flush.

When all the details were ready, I put a ten-kopeck coin on top of the mustache nut (it was for this purpose that the nut had to be drowned). It is needed so that the ruler does not deform, but you can do without a coin or replace it with something else.

The last thing to do was to glue the two slats together. When the glue has dried, it remains to insert a ruler and tighten a wing bolt or a regular bolt. I used self-made wing bolt.

As a result, I got a pretty good marking gauge, which will be very useful when marking various workpieces.
