How a homemade additive router helps with furniture assembly.
Earlier, I already talked about my homemade filler mill, which is made on the basis of an inexpensive Chinese mill.
About the device of this device you can read here.
In the comments to the description of this device, the question was asked: "How do they work, since he only drills one hole, and not two like industrial filler cutters?"
If you have ever assembled cabinet furniture, you probably noticed that the parts are usually connected to a pair of fasteners.
For example, the photo above shows a disassembled box. Holes for connecting to dowels are made in the details of the box.
These holes were made using such a device.
A pair of holes was made in the platform of this router from the center to both sides for the installation of stops.
The upper platform is movable and can be fixed at a given distance from the center of the cutter.
With this device, you can quickly and at the same distance drill the desired holes in the parts to be assembled.
For example, a designated box is made of 18 mm plywood. Dowel 8x30 mm. The upper stop is placed at a distance of 9 mm from the drilling center - the middle of the edge. A limiter is placed in the site.
Further, holes are drilled in all the details in the edge and plane with support on this stop. Thus, holes can be made in the edges to the right and to the left, and in the planes only on one side. To make holes on the other side, you need to rearrange the stopper to the other side in the device platform.
As a result, quite quickly and without additional marking, it turns out to make an additive for the parts of the box and in the future it is easy to assemble it using glue and dowels.
By resting on the stops, you can make a series of holes at the same distance. The stop is simply inserted into the drilled hole so that the next one can be drilled at a given distance.
Or you can drill according to the markings.
The device is quite versatile and I often use it when assembling various products.
For example, with its help I collected this Dollhouse.
Here, the assembly is made on dowels of 6 mm, because the walls of the house are 10 mm. plywood.
