House with a second light! We analyze the pros and cons.
I have one old dream. Although now this is no longer a dream, but a goal that I will try with all my might to realize. I want a house by the sea or ocean with large panoramic windows and a beautiful view. Already mentally planned out how it will look. An obligatory item of the interior will be the presence of a second light in the house. I am very inspired by this idea. I will share with you its advantages and disadvantages.
A house with a second light is a modern design solution, where in one room there are no overlaps between floors, thereby creating a huge spacious room with a height of several floors with large panoramic windows on the levels of the first and second floor, creating a natural lighting. The second light is the presence of additional upper tier windows in the room. This is how the ceremonial halls for balls in palaces used to look. Now, of course, everything is a little different, but the space is organized according to the same principle.
Not every home is suitable for adding a second light. It should be a two-story house or a house with an attic with an area of 120 sq. m. and ceiling height no more than 3 meters. The house should be able to make a room with a second light close to a square. The room should not be long and narrow. The facade is equipped with large windows or panoramic glazing.
Pros of the second light:
- The originality of the interior inside the house and the unusual facade.
- Space, plenty of air and sunlight.
- High ceilings.
- A spacious room that can accommodate a large number of people.
- Opportunity to admire beautiful views from the window.
- The ability to set tall decor or trees, such as a huge Christmas tree.
- An interior with a second light is solid, aristocratic and aesthetically pleasing.
Disadvantages of the second light:
- Loss of useful living space. Some of the rooms on the second floor are lost.
- The need for thermal insulation and additional heating structures - the addition and non-standard placement of radiators, installation of warm floors.
- High audibility. The need for additional soundproofing of the bedrooms adjacent to the room with a second light.
- A kind of "transparency" at home, which does not suit everyone.
- Impracticality, inconvenience in cleaning the room, in the maintenance of high ceilings, windows, chandeliers and curtains.
- The high cost of arranging and maintaining such a room.
The attitude of people to houses with a second light is different: some say that it is insanely beautiful, others believe that it is completely impractical and do not understand the expediency of such interiors. Of course, this idea has its pluses and minuses. But for me it's a little dream!
