Additive router based on a conventional one. Drawings and examples of use
For more than 6 years now, this homemade device has been helping me when assembling on dowels, making grooves and gluing wide panels.
Look at a few examples of products in which this fixture was the primary assembly tool.
There have already been several publications about this device on the channel, but they were made at different times. Therefore, I decided to make a brief overview of the device, give drawings and show examples of use.
The device is made on the basis of the DIOLD MEF-1,1 mill. Its review, pros and cons, I did here in this article.
The device itself is a special platform for this router. Further, see the drawings of this site.
You can download these drawings by following the links. The first - general drawings with the SketchUp model. These drawings can be adapted to any suitable router. The second - drawings for the router DIOLD MEF-1,1
The device is simple - a rectangular plate, which on one side goes flush with the base of the router, and on the opposite side, a corner moves in the grooves.
The position of the corner sets the distance to the cutter from the upper plane of the part, and stops are set in the holes to the left and right of the cutter. They set the distance from the edge of the part.
There is also a window in the corner with a line along the axis of the cutter. With it, you can make holes according to the marking.
A more detailed description can be found in the article: "The device of a self-made filler mill "
Examples of using
As I said, this device is a good helper for dowel assembly.
Such a row of holes is made simply: the first hole is made according to the marking, and the subsequent ones with the help of a guide dowel installed in the platform. This dowel is inserted into the first drilled hole to drill the next. Then it is rearranged into the newly drilled one and the next is drilled, etc. The gallery shows this sequence.
More details on how to do this can be seen here. There is also a video clip.
With the corner removed, this tool can be used to accurately drill a series of holes in a plane.
These holes can be made either at right angles or at any arbitrary angle.
A detailed description of how this is done can be found in the eof that publication.
Grooves
This device can help make these grooves. The top corner is used to set the distance from the edge of the part. The length of the groove is set by marking.
With the help of a window in the upper part of the device, the extreme holes of the groove are made, and then with a small arbitrary offset holes are drilled between the extreme ones and at the end you need to run a mill from edge to edge of the groove so that it align.
Details you can look here.
Gluing a wide board.
As for gluing the shield. The dowels are needed here only in order to prevent the parts from moving when tightening. It often happens when the parts smeared with glue move when tightened with clamps. Dowels can help to eliminate this displacement.

This concludes. Thanks for reading. I would be glad to have your support in the form of a like and a subscription to the channel. And see other publications on the channel.
