We make a puzzle "white rhino" out of wood. Master Class
Greetings.
I suggest you see how you can make such a puzzle.
Hardwoods are suitable for manufacturing, for example: birch, maple, beech, oak and the like. Workpiece size 40 x 50 x 110 mm.
This puzzle is cut out on a jigsaw machine. These machines can be bought or made. My version of a homemade jigsaw machine can be look here.
First, the outer contour of the figure is cut out. First on one side.
Next, the figure is inserted back into the block from which it was cut and the block is tightly wrapped with transparent tape. And then the contour is cut out on the other side of the bar.
The resulting figure is returned to the original bar, and other parts of the bar are put back. Again, everything is wrapped tightly with transparent tape and you can start cutting out the pieces of the puzzle.
The first part is cut along the contour from above.
After it is removed from the workpiece and set aside.
Then the workpiece is rotated 90 degrees and the second piece of the puzzle is cut from the profile side and also removed from the workpiece.
Again, the workpiece is turned 90 degrees and the third part is cut, and this is repeated until the last part.
The resulting parts are reassembled in reverse order to give the final shape.
To secure the puzzle, a hole is drilled in place of the rhino's eyes for the locking pin. A hairpin is a small wooden stick with a diameter of 3 mm. by hole size.
Next, with a pencil, I mark the parts that need to be removed or rounded, and then I grind the marked parts with a small grinding drum on a flexible shaft.
The flexible shaft I use together with such a homemade product. You can also use an engraver (drill).
For the final finishing after the grinding drum, I smooth out the figure with fine (P120) sandpaper by hand.
The next step is to process the shape with a "mop" of sandpaper strips on a flexible shaft.
And in the end, I go over the product with a felt circle.
And this is the result.
You can watch the whole process in more detail and in detail from this video.
For those who want to try their hand at making such products, I invite you for templates here on this page.
And if you want me to make such or a similar puzzle for you, then write to me here.
