We did bathroom renovations and hired a team from the company, I'm telling you what we regretted

We live in Omsk, we have a two-room apartment, in an old panel house, we last renovated it in the late 90s. Then we just got married and our parents were engaged in the repair. Naturally, much has become dilapidated during this time. In addition, major work was required, the wiring had to be changed.

My wife and I saved up for repairs for a long time, 5 years. It is not an option to give a mortgage - it helps the son and his daughter-in-law to pay it off. Therefore, they postponed every month as much as they could. And so last summer we decided to start. I can do the dismantling, glue the wallpaper and plaster the walls myself, but lay the tiles, the floors are difficult for me, but I didn't want to do it anyhow, because it is not known when the next repair is let's start. I did what I did myself in order to save money, and it was also interesting for myself.

But when it came to the bathroom, my brother volunteered to help me, he is not a professional, an amateur. I myself made repairs in the bathroom. Why did we decide to contact the firm and did not hire private traders

We all have a stereotype that private workers make repairs cheaper. And this is partly true. We hired workers who made our floors (laminate), separately hired an electrician, a plumber (changed pipes in all rooms), hired ceilings (made a suspended ceiling). All of them were private owners.

And here are the difficulties we faced:

• · Each had to negotiate separately, some found it convenient to work together with other workers, others asked to call them when there was no one left in the apartment.
• · The laminate worker promised to do everything in a week, but in the end his work dragged on for three weeks, he periodically simply did not come, finding various reasons. We endured because we did really well.
• A plumber came drunk a couple of times (a classic of the genre), after which we had to look for another. I do not want to correct the jambs later only that the employee was drunk.
• · The master, who laid the tiles on the kitchen floor, laid one cracked one (most likely, it cracked precisely because of his fault), and would have left it that way if I had not noticed.
• · Ceiling installers at first named one price, but in the process of work they threw in more, explaining this by the rise in price of the profiles for which we agreed.

As a result, the period for which we expected to have time to make the repairs was delayed 2 times, more money was spent than planned. But this is nonsense compared to how much nerves we spent with the workers, who now and then threw surprises at us. Since our agreements were only in words, we really could not show them anything.

After everything, when it came to the bathroom, I decided to hire the guys from the company (I saw an advertisement by accident), so that, in which case, I have full grounds to demand deadlines or recover damage for poor quality work.

What we regret after hiring a team from the firm

After the guys handed us our bathrooms, this is what my wife and I still regret:

• · The price that the company charged us after the estimate was made was 12% cheaper than the private craftsman thought we were. We regretted not hiring a company right away to renovate the entire apartment.
• · We did the repairs in the bathroom just in time, in 10 days, and we were more than satisfied with the quality. We regret that we delayed the work out of our own stupidity - we wanted to save on private traders, as a result, we spent more time, money and nerves.
• The company has a fully staffed team, there are all specialists who can do turnkey repairs, no need to look each worker separately and we regret that we decided to negotiate with the foremen separately, thinking that it would be more profitable.
• · We entered into a contract with the company and we had legal rights in case the workers violated the rules of the contract. We could negotiate with private craftsmen only in words and count on their decency. But as it turned out, not all of them are decent.

In general, the renovation is over and in general we are satisfied. We gained experience, now we know what and how best to do. We advise friends to contact the company now. And if you still doubt that private repairs are more profitable, just look at the price list of the company here and compare with the prices of private craftsmen.
