Unusual can opener

Hello again everyone. Today we will consider another interesting homemade product. As intended, it is an opener for various cans. I have no idea where this can be used, but the idea itself seemed interesting to me, albeit a little crude.

In general, let's agree, I publish it as it is, and you yourself decide whether you need such a stray on the farm. And of course write your opinion or suggestions in the comments.

We take a steel sheet with a thickness of at least 3 mm, and preferably 4 mm for greater strength. Next, we draw such a propeller as in the photo. Its radius is approximately 40-45 cm and has three blades.

Next, we cut out this entire structure. In each blade, we also make such cutouts as in the photo. They will move a bolt with a bearing to the size of the can. The width of these cutouts depends on the diameter of the bolt you will be using. In our case, we take a bolt of 10.

Next, we clean this entire structure so that there are no sharp edges. In the center we drill a hole for the bolt, which will act as a cutter.

We weld a nut onto the central hole, it is clear why so that the cutter can be adjusted.

Now the central bolt is sharpened with a grinder or on a machine. First, they are sharpened on a cone, and then the excess metal is removed from both sides so that the cutter turns out to be flat. I would have played with the shape and size of the cutter, I think that a more effective option could be made.

We start assembling the structure. This requires three bolts for 10, three bearings, three washers and six nuts.

We put the bearing on the bolt and fix it with a nut. Then we insert the bolt into the hole cut for it as shown in the photo. We put the washer on top and again the nut.

Now we screw our cutter bolt into its regular place.

The essence of the work is very simple. We install our opener on the end of the can. The cutter bolt is naturally shifted away from the conditional center of the can. Then we press the bearings to the sides of the can and fix them with nuts so that they do not move. This ensures a smooth cut at the same distance from the edge of the can.

Now hit the bolt with a hammer so that it punches a hole. We hold the jar in a static position and begin to rotate the opener along the side of the jar while making a cut.

Of course, you will have to make an effort depending on the thickness of the metal of the can on the sharpness of the bolt cutting edge.

That's the whole comedy. From myself I can say that I am not delighted with this product, but this is probably because I have nowhere to apply it. I don’t use such jars that I have to open them like this. And for canned food I have a manual opener.

The idea itself seemed to me something interesting, but very damp. I think that it can be further modernized, but so far I have not figured out how to do it.
