Making a universal magnetic mass for a welding machine
Hello dear homemade products and craftsmen. Today we are going to make a universal magnetic mass for the welding machine. I scoured the open spaces of the bourgeois Internet and saw many different options for magnetic masses, but this one seemed interesting to me and I decided to share it with you.
Let's get to work and we need such a metal plate. You need to drill two holes in it, for the bolts that you will use. You can round off the edges.
This is the result you should get in the end.
We proceed with the installation of the magnet, which we will fix on a regular bolt. Insert the bolt into the hole.
Now we screw the self-locking nut onto the bolt with the crown outward, as shown in the photo.
Now we put on a round magnet, these can be obtained from any old speaker.
Further, the author used another self-locking nut, the diameter of which allows it to be inserted into the inner hole of the magnet and screwed onto the bolt thread.
This is what you get as a result. The second nut is used not only for securing the magnet, but also prevents it from moving sideways relative to the bolt axis. As you can see in the photo, the teeth on the nut are ground to ensure a tighter contact of the magnet with the surface.
For the second hole, take another bolt and grind its end onto a cone, as in the photo.
We put two washers on the bolt for fastening the mass and insert it into the second hole of our workpiece.
On the reverse side, the bolt is fixed with a self-locking nut after the earth cable is connected between the washers.
You will get such a design as a result. Note that the surface of the magnet and the tip of the bolt are on the same plane, this is important.
This is how this mass is used in welding.
This is how it can be used when welding pipes, if you take a mass with an ordinary crab there is no way.
The idea is quite interesting, but I doubt about sharpening the bolt on the cone. On the one hand, this is good, you can scratch through the rusty product and get to the bare metal to ensure good contact. On the other hand, this sharp bolt will rather weld itself to the pipe))) In general, the idea deserves discussion and revisions.
I look forward to your suggestions and thoughts on this matter. What do you think? Can you try such a miracle or is it better not to bother?
