How to drill tiles, glass and granite with one drill. And how long does it take
This time, let's see how and how to drill a hole in glass, ceramic tiles, porcelain stoneware, granite, concrete, brick, in the wall, etc. I took three materials. I even got a piece of granite (if they didn't lie) from the cladding of the building store. Even if it is not granite, it is definitely porcelain stoneware. I will try to make a hole in all samples with the same drill with a carbide tip. Will it work?
The seller at a specialized point, a grandmother of about 70 years old, said that the drill is universal and will take everything, even metal. In this, of course, I did not believe, but since gave 220 rubles for him, I expected that porcelain stoneware should be mastered.
I was the first to decide to drill the glass, because here you need the freshest eye and a steady hand. I took a piece of a glass bottle, applied a cross and tried to hit it. I aimed at the mark on the neck and although it is round, it turned out to be done without problems (see. video). Drilled with a drill, wetting glass and drill bit along the way. About after 3 minutes the hole was ready.
Further in line was ceramic tile, which, I confess, was very surprised. I also drew a target with a marker and forward. I thought that the drill would crawl a little on the front gloss, but it immediately sank into the desired point and passed through the tile, as if through oil, in 10 seconds!!! You can see for yourself by watching the video. So the ceramic for this drill is dust.
As expected, the hardest was a piece of granite (or porcelain stoneware) tiles, 10-11 mm thick. Under the onslaught of a sharp tip, he held out as much 3.5 minutes and was passed through! And this is with pauses for wetting and cooling the drill. As with ceramics, the outer edges of the inlet are flat.
At the end I turned over the tiles and granite and looked at the vents. They also pleasantly surprised with their quality and convinced that the drill coped with the task perfectly in all three cases. So what is it German drill from the brand S&R - thing worthwhile and convincing. After work, I did not notice any changes in the shape of the tip.
