What an indicator screwdriver is capable of. How to find a break in a cable
Everyone knows how to determine the phase with an indicator screwdriver in a socket or wiring. The fact that the zero is broken is also easy to check: we touch the upper contact of the screwdriver and the contact in the socket - the LED lights up, which means that the zero is not broken.
Similarly, a break in wires, incandescent lamps, heating elements that have not yet been mounted is checked: one we take contact with the fingers of one hand, and touch the other with a screwdriver with a finger attached to the upper contact.
Diodes and LEDs are checked for operability or to determine the cathode and anode: in one direction the indicator will light up, and vice versa - not.
The indicator screwdriver checks the hidden wiring (at a shallow depth). We take the sting and lead it in the intended place:
Where the wiring passes - the indicator will light up. An indicator screwdriver detects a live wire at a depth of 1-1.5 cm. To increase the sensitivity of the screwdriver, connect a 10-15 cm wire coiled into a coil to it. This will be the antenna.
In the same way, you can determine the location of a break in an open wiring or in an extension cord. To do this, we determine which wire of the cable is open (by the method described above). We connect the plug to the wire and connect it to the socket according to the “broken wire in phase” scheme. We drive with an indicator screwdriver along the wire - the indicator will stop glowing at the break point. It will not be possible to determine the break in the wall - more sensitive devices are needed.
