I am a designer. I can enliven the bedroom with bed linen, I can easily distinguish loft wallpaper from baroque wallpaper, I can fit everything I need in the smallest room. But in repair work I am, let's say, an amateur. But until recently I did not admit this even to myself - I am a man and my arms are out of my shoulders. And aren't the spheres of design and renovation close?

And just recently I realized that the repair is not mine. It's a pity that I came across a flash mob after everything was done.

How it all began

I'm building a house. Recently, the team finished pre-finishing work on the third floor and I decided to putty the walls myself. Not out of economy, but simply out of confidence, but what to do there? I threw the putty on the spatula and forward.

Each master has his own preferences when choosing a finishing material. It doesn't always depend on price or brand. I putty for the first time, so I decided not to risk it and ordered a putty mixture from a well-known manufacturer. I studied the instructions for preparing the solution and started mixing. The process went off with a bang, but I did not triumph for long.

I do not know why, but the finished mixture dried up in a matter of minutes. I experimented with the temperature of the water, and with the portions of the dry mix, and with the mixer, mixing at different speeds. Zero sense.

Too many tools and consumables

Then I prepared myself. I believe that a real man should have everything he needs. I bought an attachment for a drill, a trowel, a container, a spatula: wide, narrow and even angular. I even made a block with sandpaper to clean the putty.

But as it turned out, the help from this set is zero. I will give it to the masters - they have more friendly relations with these instruments.

Wasted a lot of time

I started the putty off the bathroom. I naively thought that there was little business in a small area! Now I don't even know: is 8 hours a lot or a little? That is how much I spent on sealing screws and drywall joints. The mixture hardened again and, as luck would have it, did not give in to resuscitation. Every time I had to prepare a new one.

The joints and screws did not want to disappear. I have tried all methods of smoothing and smoothing them. And it helped me, but only from the tenth time. I spent so much material that an adequate master would have enough for a whole floor.

Then came the ceiling. I began to putty also the junction of one level of the ceiling with another. Spent one more day on this. It turned out, as it seems to me, to a weak C grade.

Outcome

While he was talking, it was as if he had experienced this difficult, and in some places absurd, workflow. I had enough for one room and a bathroom. I looked at the remaining area and went to look for a professional. And why didn't I do it right away?

The foreman looked at the rooms where I had not yet reached with a spatula, estimated the scale, named the price. Then he went to see my results. The verdict was unambiguous: "We need to redo." Well, why did I waste so much time?

You can turn on Skype in a store with building materials or in the process of work to ask if you are doing everything right. I could also ask why my putty dries up so quickly. But come on, they've already done everything for me.
