Finishing, filling, electric heating costs

Let's sum up the story of FORUMHOUSE user and architect Evgeny Likhachev about how he built a barn house without hired workers, and what came of it. Earlier in the series:

  • Why FORUMHOUSE participant and architect Evgeny Likhachev decided to build a house-barn
  • What are the advantages of winter frame construction and the advantages of driven reinforced concrete piles
  • How to put a "box" of a frame house without hired workers, and what tools are needed for this
  • Installation of a profiled sheet, facing the facade with an unplaned board, insulation of a frame house-shed

To warm up, let's first show what was on the site.

And what happened.

Painting the wooden facade of a barn house

Winter is over. Spring came and the construction of the Barn House was in full swing. Eugene cleared the site from construction waste and dry grass. I put a pipe stand for an electric meter. I brought a SIP cable into the house (while on the ground), which would later be buried in the same trench with the sewer.

Next, Eugene painted the facade of the house, which he made from an ordinary unplaned board.

EvgenLikhachev

I painted the house with Reindeer paint. Over time, when the paint is gone, the boards will return to their natural color. In my opinion, this is - and there is a "feature" of Barn House - natural colors and simple shapes and materials. I mixed the paint with an antiseptic impregnation in a 1: 1 ratio. While applied in one layer. It took 2 cans of impregnation and 2 cans of paint with a volume of 9 liters to paint the house. I painted the reiki strips separately, on each side. For the longitudinal part of the facade, I took slats with a section of 2x4 cm, 3 m long.I had to cut into the pediments slats made of boards 6 m long, because I did not find slats longer than three meters on sale, and do not make joints wanted.

A total of 170 racks were required. The slopes on the windows are made of a board with a section of 25x200 mm. Top board 5x20 cm with a saw cut up to 2.5 cm, for water drainage. The ends protrude 2.5 cm.

And this is a plinth cap made of 12 mm thick cement particle board.

Porch and stairs inBarn house

Making an entrance staircase to a house is a crucial stage in any construction. See how Eugene approached this.

EvgenLikhachev

I made the steps of the stairs from decking. Kosoura impregnated with bituminous varnish for wood. Staircase width 1900 mm. The depth of the porch recessed into the house is 1400 mm. The height of the steps is 15 cm. Then, on the one hand, I will make a fence.

An interesting nuance: Metal gutters are installed 8-12 cm lower than the roof covering. Therefore, when the snow slides from the profiled sheet, it does not tear the gutter from the house.

One more moment, Eugene plans to make the finishing flooring from parquet boards. T. Since the subfloor, made from a regular board, turned out to be crooked, the user leveled it with a plane, having previously sunk the caps of the screws into the boards.

The boards are screwed with a gap. This will prevent them from creaking.

The floor is covered with 1 cm thick plywood.

Where it is planned to lay the tiles, Evgeny laid the cement-bonded particle board 12 mm thick. Then he will lay the GVL 10 mm thick on the DSP. Will fill a self-leveling floor with an electric underfloor heating and stick porcelain stoneware to it.

Heating costsBarn House Inverter Air Conditioner

Earlier we wrote that Eugene planned to heat the house with electricity using an inverter air conditioner and convectors. And that's what came of it.

EvgenLikhachev

From November to February, I heated the house with an inverter air conditioner that works for cooling and heating. Heating power of the equipment is 4.2 kW. My observations: up to -10 degrees Celsius outside, the power of the air conditioner is enough to maintain + 22 ° C in the house. If the temperature drops below, you need to turn on the electric convector. According to the instructions, the air conditioner is designed to work down to -15 ° C, but I turned it on down to -20 ° C. In November, he maintained + 17 ° C in the house. This is the minimum temperature of the air conditioner for heating. In the rest of the months, he carried out interior decoration and lived in the house, so he kept the temperature +22 - +24 ° C. Inverter technology very accurately maintains the temperature in the house, within half a degree. During the heating season, I "burned":

  • November473 kW;
  • December710 kW;
  • January720 kW;
  • February530 kW.

Our tariff3 rubles per 1 kW. In total, in the coldest month, 2160 rubles came out. In clear weather, the house warms up well through the large windows, and the air conditioner is turned off.

The heating of the frame with a split-system aroused increased interest on the portal and questions fell on Evgeny.

I see that the external block is standing unprotected. Thinking to put the air conditioner in a wire rack or in a metal cage? Will they steal it?

EvgenLikhachev

I will leave the air conditioner as it is. In my house in general, the front door is glass, and the neighbors too. It's better not to think about the bad.

Is it comfortable to be heated by air conditioning? Does the air flow interfere?

EvgenLikhachev

I recommend placing the outdoor unit on the ground on a frame rather than hanging it on the wall. When I slept in the living room at night with the air conditioner running, there was a feeling that there was a refrigerator nearby. The outdoor unit must be serviced in cold weather, since the radiator freezes at low temperatures. In winter, I first went once every three weeks, thawed the block with hot water from the kettle. Then he threw in the heating cable and forgot about this problem. It is too early to talk about air currents, I am doing the interior decoration and it is difficult to understand whether they interfere or not.
