Why is the boiler house in fact a furnace, how to design it and what to equip

Heating a house from a main house is a cherished dream of many country residents. The "heart" of such a dwelling is the room where the gas boiler is installed. What are the requirements for the boiler room gas services? And how to design a furnace so that it would be approved by "gas workers"? We have selected key recommendations from the new Code of Practice and will tell you about them in this material.

1. What materials and equipment should be in the furnace?

Everything is written in the Rulebook:

  • The wall-mounted gas boiler in the furnace must be located at least 20 mm from the walls (back and side) made of non-combustible materials.
  • Walls made of non-combustible materials must additionally be insulated with non-combustible materials that do not support combustion and flame spread. In this case, the boiler is located at a distance of 30 mm from the wall. Insulation should extend beyond the equipment dimensions by 100 mm on the sides and 0.7 m from the top.

  • If the gas boiler is placed on a wooden floor, it must be insulated with non-combustible materials. The fire resistance of the material is at least 45 minutes. Floor insulation should protrude beyond the dimensions of the equipment case by at least 100 mm. Install the equipment in the furnace so that there is free access to it for operation and repair.

2. How should a furnace with a gas boiler be ventilated?

The dimensions of the exhaust and supply channels are determined by calculation based on the following parameters:

  • Ventilation of the furnace occurs naturally.
  • The hood should provide three times the air exchange in the room in 1 hour.
  • The inflow is equal to the volume of the exhaust + air required for gas combustion.

3. Which way should the door open from the furnace?

The door from the room where the gas boiler is installed must open outward.

4. What size window should be installed in the furnace?

The window in the furnace is made from the calculation - the glazing area, and not the entire window with a frame, is not less than 0.03 sq. m per 1 cubic meter of room volume. Moreover, the design of the window must meet the requirements set forth in GOST R 56288"Window constructions with double-glazed windows, easily resettable for buildings". In short, in the event of a gas explosion in the furnace and the impact of a blast wave, the window should open outward under the influence of pressure. For example, a sash rotates around its axis, or a double-glazed unit, or a frame with a double-glazed unit shifts - it falls out.

5. Where can gas boilers be placed?

It is not allowed to install gas-powered equipment in bathrooms and toilets.

6. Can a gas boiler be installed in the basement?

First, let's define the terms: "basement" and "basement". So,

  • Ground floor - a floor when the floor of the premises is below the planning level of the earth by no more than half the height of the room.
  • Basement - a floor when the floor of the premises is below the planning level of the ground by more than half the height of the room.

JV 402.1325800.2018 says that heat generators operating on natural gas can be placed in the basement and basement floors of residential buildings.

7. Is it possible to install a gas boiler in the kitchen if there is already a gas stove there?

In the kitchen, you can install a gas stove, and hang a modern gas boiler on the wall, for example, condensing, which is perfectly combined with low-temperature heating systems - liquid warm gender. But there are a number of important limitations:

  • If the kitchen has a two-burner gas stove and a gas boiler with a closed combustion chamber, the volume of the room must be at least 8 m³, with a ceiling height of at least 2.2 m.
  • If a four-burner gas stove is installed in the kitchen, agree, this is what most people do. cases, and a gas boiler with a closed combustion chamber is installed, then the volume of the room must be at least 15 m³.
  • If there is a gas stove in the kitchen and a gas boiler with an open combustion chamber hanging, then another 6 m³ is added to the above-mentioned volumes of premises.

The kitchen must be ventilated using an exhaust system through a window with a vent. If the kitchen has a door, then a gap is made between it and the floor for air flow, with an area of at least 0.02 sq. m.

8. The volume of the furnace must be at least 15 So?

SP 402.1325800.2018 has clause 5.5. In short, it says there - the volume of the furnace must be at least 15 m³, with a ceiling height of at least 2.5 m.

9. Is it true that a ceiling height of 2.5 m is required for a gas boiler?

Due to changes in SNiPs and Codes of Rules of different editions and different years, confusion arises as to what the height of the ceilings in the furnace should be. Let us refer to SP 402.1325800.2018. It states that the height of the ceiling in a separate room where the gas heat generator is installed must be at least 2.5 m, provided operation of a boiler with an open combustion chamber.

10. Gas boiler room, boiler room and furnace, are they the same thing?

Many are accustomed to calling premises in private residential buildings where gas heat generators are installed - boilers or boilers. This is not entirely correct. A boiler room is, most often, a stand-alone facility where engineering equipment is located, which, generates heat for multi-storey residential buildings and complexes, as well as commercial and industrial buildings destination. More serious requirements are imposed on boiler houses than to conventional furnace for cottages.

Furnace - an individual room where there is a gas heat generator that generates heat for a private house.

In SP 402.1325800.2018 there is such a description - heat generator - a separate non-residential premises where a boiler and additional engineering equipment are installed. Therefore, below, the boiler room, we will call the furnace.

11. What should be guided by when designing a furnace?

When designing and building a boiler room, focus on SP 402.1325800.2018“The buildings are residential. Design rules for gas consumption systems ". The current version of the Code of Rules was introduced on June 6, 2019. The Code of Rules gives:

  • Terms and definitions about gas-powered equipment
  • Requirements for premises and rules for the placement of gas-using equipment
  • Requirements for indoor gas pipelines
  • Engineering and technical requirements for the premises where gas-fired equipment is installed
  • Fire safety requirements and solutions for premises where gas appliances and equipment are installed
  • Rules for the operation of gas-using equipment

The information set forth in SP 402.1325800.2018 directly affects the safety of using gas equipment in residential buildings.
