Having bought an apartment, they began repairs from the bathroom: how to do it with minimal cost or tried as best they could

A family living in the Saratov region, shared with us the beginning of their renovation in the apartment.

How it all began?

We live in the Saratov region, in a small town. We bought an apartment and decided to start by renovating the bathroom. Toilet and bathroom were combined. The previous owners smashed the wall, but the repairs never came. The area of ​​work is not large and we thought that we can handle it quickly. Ooooh, how wrong we were! Let's go to the store, taking a shopping list with us:

• Block glue
• Floor and wall tiles
• Self-leveling floors
• Toilet
• Bathroom
• Heated towel rails
• Mixer
• Primer
• Pipes
• Grout for joints
• Light fixtures
• Drywall
• Profile

First disappointment

Walking through the store, we were unpleasantly surprised by the jump in prices for building materials. Literally a couple of months before that, they had already looked after the tile, but now it cost 30% more. It was decided to save on everything possible.

We decided to take good plumbing, more expensive. Fortunately, the husband is well versed in this. Well, that tile with starfish, well we can live without it. They wanted to take a secret pipe hatch, but they just took a white one.

Indeed, six months after the repair, you will not even pay attention to what color your tiles are, but if pipes or a cistern on the toilet begin to leak, it will be unpleasant.

Let's go!

Restroom

The first step was to restore the wall with interior blocks. The premises immediately seemed smaller than we expected, and I was glad that I chose light-colored tiles.

An old tile was opened on the floor, and there was good waterproofing under it. They decided to leave her. The floors were filled with a "self-leveling floor", according to the manufacturer it dries for 4 hours. I did not deceive, it dried up, but it did not work out evenly, there were mounds, they were leveled with sandpaper.

On the back wall there was a niche with pipes, it was covered with drywall and a hatch was installed. Subsequently, a water heater will be hung on this wall, so a special reinforcement was made for future fasteners.

We primed the walls. While the primer was drying, lay the tiles on the floor. Here a catch awaited us: old doors. We decided not to change them yet, but to lay the tiles back to back to the threshold. But as it turned out later, the sills of the new doors were much narrower and there was a strip of floor without tiles. But we learned about this later.

When the floors "stood up", they began to lay out the tiles on the walls. There were no problems, everything went smoothly. The husband had already laid out the tiles several times before, but it still turned out not perfect, but on their own. We plan to stretch the ceiling, so they did not make the tiles in the butt to the ceiling, so that it would not crack later when attaching the guides. We hung up the heater.

It looks like the toilet is almost ready, except for the door of course.

Bathroom

This time I insisted that the solution of "self-leveling floors" correspond to the instructions exactly, before that it was done "by eye". Everything turned out perfectly, exactly. Once again I am convinced that the masculine "I know myself" is not always true. It was decided not to report the tiles on the floor until the threshold, but to leave them until we installed the doors.

They decided to lay the walls in the way, as I call it, "on the bathroom". This is when the bathroom is installed from the beginning, and then tiles are laid out on its edge, and not the bathroom is leaning against the already laid tiles.

We installed a bath and went in a circle to lay out tiles on the walls. This is where the problems arose.

When cutting holes for pipes, the tile burst, which significantly reduced its number. Well, what can you do, then we will buy in addition how much is not enough. But then there was a surprise. The new tile was slightly lighter. A new batch, probably. Therefore, buy tiles with a large supply.

We installed new lamps, heated towel rails and other little things.

They decided to call the master to install the doors, my faithful was afraid to spoil them. But then it turned out that the master hadn't foamed well enough and the doors were warped, they had to redo it ourselves.

 So a hired foreman does not always do well.

Now that the shelves have been hung, everything you need has been arranged, it became more comfortable. And of course you need rugs. But we haven't bought them yet. I want something fluffy, bright and soft.

It remains only to stretch the ceilings and that's it!!! Our renovation will be completed!

They exhaled, and early, in turn, there is a corridor, a kitchen and a hall, but this is a completely different story... ...
