How a house was built in Serbia in the middle of the river

There is a town in Serbia with the funny name Bayina Basta. It stands on the Drina River. It would seem that there is nothing special about these geographical objects. If not for one fact - in the middle of the river there is a house on a large boulder.

The sight of this lonely hut brings to mind both the Moomins during the flood, and the famous Noah's Ark in the middle of the Great Flood. How did he get there? Remained alone from a whole village that used to stand on the site of the Drina bed? Carried away by the current? Solid riddles.

It's actually pretty simple. In 1968, a group of local boys loved to swim and sunbathe on a rock. Sitting and lying on it was uncomfortable - hard, and the surface was uneven. We decided to build a walkway. They began to bring boards from the old barn on boats.

The platform was built, but then I wanted to make a shelter from the rain and the scorching sun. And so it turned out to be a small pretty house - the dream of a hermit-water. It has only one room, and no more is needed.

The stone house is already half a century old. Only local residents knew about him for a long time. That all changed in 2012 when photographer Irena Becker took a series of pictures with a romantic house on the river. The building immediately became a tourist attraction, it is even called "the seventh wonder of the world", but on the scale of Serbia.

Drina is now located in the Tara Natural Park, which is open to tourists. You can get there by bus. And the daredevils get to the house by swimming, the rest - by boats. It looks very picturesque and cozy, like a fabulous hut of some heroes of ancient legends.

The house has suffered more than once from the tricks of the elements - hurricanes and floods. But the locals restored it, because for many years they got used to admiring the atmospheric hut on the water surface. For the convenience of travelers, a restaurant was built on the shore - you can sit at a table by the window, look at the house and come up with fantastic stories with his participation. From a distance, it seems that he is sailing towards adventure, like a small ship.
