How to make decorative plaster from putty with your own hands

While renovating an apartment, I faced the problem of how to decorate the walls. It was originally planned to use wallpaper, but this option did not work at all. The house where I live is a panel 5 - storey building of the Soviet years. Significant curvature of walls and corners is the main problem of such buildings.

Since the renovation was planned on a budgetary basis, and there was practically no time to do the lathing and leveling using drywall, the choice was made in favor of plaster. This technique is not ideal, but small differences allow you to hide a little. Additionally, I used perforated corners to even out corners and slopes.

After the rough work was done, the walls were slightly tidied up, it was decided to paint them. But since there is not much experience in working with plaster, small flaws remained noticeable, the use of a decorative composition was an option. To save money, I used a simple putty to give texture to the wall, and this made it possible to hide the imperfections.

Decorative putty

To create the decorative composition, I used a plaster-based filler from Volma, the price is 20 kg, the mixture is 330 rubles.

In addition, I needed a trowel, rubber trowel and a primer. The primer was also used from the manufacturer Volma. I advise you to take the compositions of the same firms.

Instructions for mixing putty and primer:

· In a clean bucket we dilute 6 kg of the mixture and about 0.4 l. primers;

· Using a construction mixer or a nozzle with a drill, stir until a pasty consistency is obtained;

· If desired, the composition can include color tint or paint.

Wall decoration

After the composition has been prepared, you can proceed to the finishing process itself:

· The first step is to prepare the wall. It is necessary to clean the old coating (paint or wallpaper), putty, sand and prime for better adhesion of the decorative composition. The primer dries on average in 4-6 hours;

· Then apply the mixture to the spatula-trowel and press it against the wall;

· Let it dry a little for 1-2 minutes and use a rubber spatula without strong pressure in different directions over the surface. The resulting texture is similar to the grotto effect. Thus, the entire wall is decorated;

· Let the coating dry for 12 hours and paint the walls can begin.

Total cost of finishing

I was faced with the task of performing budget repairs, let's see how much money was spent:

· Putty 2 bags on 4 walls - 660 rubles;

· Primer 1 canister 10 l. - 268 rubles;

· Additional tools: rubber spatula, trowel - 300 rubles.
