Well, the New Year holidays are over. The main holidays are behind us and it's time to get down to business. Many of us have already managed to miss the pleasant bustle of seeds, cups, soil. And by the joy of watching the growth of small seedlings - the results of our labor.

✅ Today I decided to write a small memo - for sowing the seeds of which plants you can start now. I'll be honest with you, so I don't want to rush into planting tomatoes, peppers, eggplants ... Yes, you can find such recommendations on the Internet. But (my opinion) there is more harm from such an early sowing than any significant benefit. You decide!

✅ Also on my part it would be cunning to advise you to sow something in January without mentioning an important nuance. If the crops do not have sufficient lighting, then the plants will turn out to be elongated and frail. To achieve success, you need to free the southernmost window, or even better, get a linear lamp (LED or fluorescent). I advise you not to spend money on phyto-lamps - their clear advantages have not been proven.

What flowers to sow in January

In January, flower growers sow plants with a long growing season. From about 150 days or longer. That is, these flowers will bloom only after 5–6 months - which explains the haste.

• Zonal pelargonium is a plant that reproduces easily by seeds. Young seedlings grow rapidly and release the first umbrellas by summer.

• Tuberous begonia is a charming plant with large flowers, it can be ampelous and bush. You can buy an adult tuber, or you can grow it yourself from seeds. Just remember that in the first year of life, the nodule turns out to be very small, and the first-year begonia should not be sent to winter rest.

• Calibrachoa is the younger sister of petunia. Yes, her flowers are smaller. But the calico flower cascade is no less impressive! This year, I chose this particular plant with a difficult name for decorating my house.
• Carnation Shabo is a classic of the garden genre for lovers of delicate, in their own way romantic flowers. Its cousin - the for some reason lost popularity Turkish carnation - can also be sown now to see the super-early June bloom.
• Hybrid perennial delphiniums - for those who love tall candle flowers. There are no colors and shapes. Itself every time I look at the catalogs of seeds and salivation flows. But where to plant?

• January is also the last chance to plant eustoma. If you have the excitement to compete with this beauty, according to reviews, incredibly beautiful - it's time! Reviews and numerous photos on social networks from people who managed to grow eustoma say: it's worth it!

I would like to note that seeds collected from hybrid plants with my own hands may not repeat all the characteristics of the parents. Most likely, the result will be more similar to one of them!

And what about edibles?

Among the plants from the category "Not for the delight of the soul, but for the stomach", there are also slow-witted. If you decide to grow celery and leeks, then you have to be puzzled in January. The reason is, again, the long growing season.

Well, strawberries - I don't know how many people are sowing new varieties with seeds. But the optimal time for sowing berry crops is January – early February. So the seedlings will get strong enough before planting in the ground.
