Why in Hong Kong a person only has 5 square meters to live

One of the four Asian tigers - this is how Hong Kong is called in the international arena. And not in vain! The economy of this already Chinese province is on a par with London, Singapore and New York.

Many people dream of visiting this city, which combines Asian and European traditions inherited from the colonial past. Tourists are amazed by multilevel streets, pedestrian traffic jams, light shows on skyscrapers. But if we look behind the beautiful facades?

If you have been to Hong Kong, you have definitely seen whole armies of "anthills" - rows of identical apartment buildings. At the approaches to the city, it even begins to ripple in the eyes of their multitude and unconsciously ask the question: "And do people live in such conditions?"

The very high population density drives people into inhuman conditions - a family of five can live in 25 m2. Moreover, the cost of such an apartment can be up to 22 million rubles. I don’t really want to start a family in such conditions, right?

Among the locals, “capsule” apartments are becoming more and more popular, and among the common people, “cages” or “coffins”. From one "big" apartment of 40 m2, you can make 20 of these. It is impossible to stand up in these rooms, and the kitchen is combined with a toilet, but you do not need to shell out 20 annual salaries for a roof over your head.

For us, people from the post-Soviet space, such a life will seem like hell. How is it that each child will not have their own room? Where to put the dining table for guests? And a place for a huge wardrobe for skis and winter clothes?

Another question is how long can people endure? Every year, housing only rises in price and the income of the population does not keep pace with the rise in prices. Already, more and more disaffected people are taking to the streets, and young people are leaving for a better life.

What is more important to you: the economic power of the country or the personal standard of living? Would you tolerate crowding in exchange for the state's technological progress?
