How to protect the buried part of a metal post from moisture: a cheap and reliable way
There is no material for building stronger than metal! But with all the advantages, it has one significant disadvantage: when it comes into contact with moisture, the metal is corroded, as a result of which it loses all its strength characteristics and collapses. The problem is especially acute when metal structures are buried in the ground, for example, when building fences and sheds. Read on to find out how to keep moisture out of metal poles in the cheapest way. Don't forget to like and subscribe to the channel - we only have useful content!
What does that require
Let's make a reservation right away that the method works as long as possible, the pillars must be primed and painted. This must be done both from the outside and from the inside. The condition is important, but not at all obligatory.
For our method you will need: plastic bottles with a volume of 1.5-2 liters, a knife and a hair dryer. The simplicity and cheapness of this method will surprise you, but more on that below.
How to waterproof the bottom of a metal post
The principle of this waterproofing is simple: create a polymer shell from plastic bottles that will protect the post from the negative effects of moisture. All that needs to be done is to cut off the bottom and the neck with the funnel part of the bottles (make plastic cylinders), put them on the pipe and, with the help of a construction hair dryer, give the necessary shape. Under the influence of high temperatures, plastic tends to shrink and under the hot air flow it will tightly squeeze the pipe.
For example, a professional pipe serves as a fence post, which is buried 80 centimeters into the ground. It is necessary to take several plastic cylinders so that their total length is 90 cm (taking into account overlaps!), put them on one at a time on the professional pipe (always with an overlap!) and heat with a hairdryer so that the plastic melts and compressed the pipe. Treat overlapped joints with particular care to ensure maximum tightness! A bottle with a bottom must be put on the bottom of the post so that it clogs the hole. Thus, you get a dense plastic shell. You can call it a "boot". It is she who will protect the metal surface from moisture.
