My pets... Lemons. How I planted and what came of it
For a long time I watched the growing lemons of different varieties on the window, but not with me, but with a friend. Secretly dreamed of growing the same.
And so I became the owner of a small cutting, which was stuck in a small bowl with earth. I carefully covered it with a glass jar and kept it that way for at least six months until it gave new shoots with young oily leaves. From that moment on, a long wait for the "offspring" began.
A year later, my lemon grew, it has twigs with leaves. It is covered with many flowers of an extraordinary citrus aroma. What was my disappointment when all the flowers fell off.
I transplanted the grown lemon into larger pots, watered it regularly with water, since it does not like overdrying and can throw off all the leaves at once, fed it with fertilizer for citrus fruits.
And he, in turn, bloomed with the same regularity.
I tried to work as a "bee" pollinating the ovaries with barren flowers, but to no avail. It turns out that the first full bloom, when lemons can start, occurs only in the third year of "life".
And what a miracle! After another abundant flowering, not all ovaries have disappeared, a few small, green lemons, like peas, began to grow! One of them was clearly ahead of the others in its development.
The second disappointment - the weak embryos all fell away ...
Although the lemon is masculine, I always compare it to a woman who prepares to become a mother for nine long months.
After the due date, our family was rewarded with fragrant tea with lemon, which grew on our window.
It was not as large as the subsequent lemons, but for us it became the most long-awaited and delicious.
Probably, I am a bad housewife - my lemon does not see much care from me, but with constant regularity it has been pleasing our family with fragrant fruits for 10 years, for which we are very grateful.
