Weigela in many of its varieties is my weakness! Variegated, Middendorf, Pleasant and Early - all of them, fortunately, are united by similar agricultural techniques, which I spent more than one year studying. And having made the appropriate conclusions, I am ready to share useful information with everyone.

The site for this deciduous shrub should be sunny - even slight shading makes the flowering of the weigela dull.

In my garden from the north, from where the wind is blowing, thuja is planted in a row - weigela needs any such shelter from its strong gusts that can damage fragile twigs.

And as it is true for many seedlings - they adapt best during transplantation and are more likely to enter the flowering time of a three-year-old. Be sure to place each at least 2.5-3 meters from other plantings, because the adult weigela has a spreading crown!

The ideal soil mixture for this plant should include 2 parts of sod and leafy soil, as well as 1 part of sand.

The looseness of the site is a prerequisite for the good health of the weigla. Therefore, defining a seedling for a permanent place, you should lay a 10 cm layer of sawdust or peat in it.

Weigla - loves water! I water all summer as needed, keeping the ground moist at all times. Abundant watering can even save the weigela in early spring, if frostbitten branches are found after winter.

The plant needs fertilization three times a season:

· In spring, when the snow melts - a complex mineral with a high level of nitrogen (nitroammophoska is suitable);

· In summer, in June - a product with a minimum of nitrogen and an increased portion of potassium and phosphorus;

· In autumn, in October - a repetition of the summer one, which contributes to a successful wintering.

The wintering of the weigla must correspond to its variety and variety - in this they differ. Some hibernate without shelter, others need to bend the branches and be warmed with spruce branches or agrofibre. Check this information in the nursery where you buy the plant!

Of the pests, aphids and spider mites are the most dangerous, but at an early stage of the attack, you can do without insecticides, that is, folk remedies.

But at the first signs of fungal diseases - rust, spotting or rot, I was convinced from personal experience that it is better not to hesitate to use fungicides.
