In Syria, it is impossible to flood neighbors, women and men knock on the door in different ways, and in the kitchen you can roast a ram
Emancipated women of the CIS do not always perceive and represent the life of a Muslim woman well. It often seems that they are “poor, covered up, do not see the white light”, but this is not so! There, a woman is surrounded by care, she is not guarded for control, but for her own quiet life.
I can't hear and I can't see
The layout of apartments in Syria is thought out so that neighbors do not interfere with each other. Their windows do not overlook the neighbors' (all of them can even go out into their own courtyard), even the front doors are placed as far away as possible. If a man comes home, but hears that the neighbor's door is starting to open, he will turn away and wait so that he does not inadvertently see someone else's woman or neighbors' apartment. In this I see a deep respect for people's personal lives. Indeed, who needs “hello” and a curious look from a stranger when you’re not ready?
In buses, women are left with single seats by the window so that no one sat down next to them and does not embarrass or embarrass them. Husbands go to the markets, carry groceries themselves, you won't find a single woman with bags there. If they see such a person, they will rush to help her as hard as they can, because they will mistake her for a widow: they will lead her home, give money, remember the address, and will bring food for a long time!
They do not save on sound insulation, if they plan to repair - they agree on a schedule in advance. If for certain works it will be necessary to climb onto the roof, and from there the masters will have a view of the neighbors' windows - they need to be notified in advance.
Pour water - I don't want to!
It is customary for them to cover the walls and floors in all rooms with tiles, and to make a drain on the floor in each room. You can at least water with buckets, but nothing threatens the lower floors. For hot and dusty climates, this is ideal - both the coolness of the tiles and frequent wet cleaning. Syrian students, who find a plank or parquet on our floor, sincerely misunderstand: how do they have to live so neatly now, how to wash the floors with a small amount of water?
Reception of guests
Each front door should have two knockers (knockers), a large one for men and a small one for women. It may seem that this is somehow strange and offensive, but later it turns out that it is just incredibly convenient! If a friend comes to his wife, the husband will not open the door. And if male friends, or colleagues, or even God knows who came (check the meters, for example), then you will hear it by knocking - and the owner of the house will open the door.
There can be two kitchens in the house: for women cooking food for the family and for cooking on an especially large scale - for men. In the large kitchen, special ovens are equipped right in the floor, in which you can cook whole rams. If you need to cook food for 200-300 people, then the parties are really very large, and it will be difficult for women (no matter how many there are).
In the East, families are large and strong. Each family should have a supply of new mattresses, bedspreads and bed linen in case of "invasion" of relatives. Sometimes they come from other areas on business and can stay for a few days - this is in the order of things; you cannot refuse politely. Therefore, there are no 1-2-room apartments in Syria at all. The most unfortunate, perhaps, live in 3 rooms, but usually apartments have 4-5 rooms.
There are also such large houses in which you can literally get lost! For example, on Friday evening my husband's parents practiced "running away" from their 7 children in order to be together on the day off, and they just ran and knocked on doors - looking. I think this is just fine. And to be able to retire, and the fact that after the birth of their seven, they still want to be together!
Which of the described moments did you like more, and which is still not perceived? I'm interested to hear your opinion in the comments!
