There are several flooring options on sale for different rooms. Self-leveling floors, laminate, linoleum, parquet, tiles. But some decide to save money on expensive finishes. If you like original solutions, want to save money, make a chintz parquet. Decorate your floors with chintz? Why not.

Such floors can be made by yourself, without the involvement of specialists. Chintz is not expensive. There is a wide selection of colors, patterns, patterns. Carefully performed work will look original and unbeatable.

Back in the 70s, chintz floors were popular in our country. And now many are interested in this. This is a wonderful analogue to parquet. The coating turns out to be durable (it will last for tens of years) and resistant to damage and moisture.

For laminate, linoleum, tiles and other finishes, you need to level the floor. For chintz, this is also required. By the way, not only chintz, but also satin, linen, calico is suitable. The main condition is dense fabric, beautiful, clear drawing or pattern.

You cannot lay chintz on a “playing” wooden floor or on a floor with defects.

First step

Use plywood, fiberboard, OSB, chipboard or other material to provide a smooth, even floor. The resulting gaps between the sheets are putty, and then the dried seams are cleaned with sandpaper. Cover the finished base with linseed oil in 2 layers. Wait until everything is dry. Then again everyone goes through with fine sandpaper and vacuum the floor.

Second step

Bonding fabric to the base. To do this, spread a canvas of chintz from wall to wall, cut off the necessary pieces. Glue the fabric with PVA or Bustilat glue using a roller. First, glue is applied to the floor surface, wait 10-15 minutes and glue the fabric. The edge of the fabric can be nailed to the floor with small nails to prevent the fabric from shifting when smoothing. It is necessary to expel all air bubbles, smoothing the chintz from the center along the edges.

When gluing fabric, align the pattern, adjust the seams. So you need to glue the entire floor with a cloth. Then wait until everything is dry.

Third step

Protective layer. It is needed to maintain the color of the chintz and increase the service life. We dilute with PVA water. The proportions are 1: 4. Apply a protective layer and leave it to dry completely (3 days). Ventilate the area to dry quickly.

Last

Varnishing. Use a varnish that does not yellow.

Alkyd (for parquet) or polyurethane varnishes are suitable. Choose a varnish with a high abrasion resistance.

The first layer of varnish is applied with a foam roller. They are waiting for it to dry out (about 2 days). Then apply the second and subsequent layers. In total, you need to apply 5 layers of varnish. After the last layer, wait about 4 days. During this procedure, do not open the windows so that there are no cracks in the varnish.
