What are humic substances

The benefits of humic substances are not only the stimulation of plant growth and productivity, but also the ability to protect them from the effects of poor ecology, diseases, and pests.

Humates are produced in liquid, dry and pasty form. The main advantage of this type of fertilizer is its low price and high efficiency. But there are some limitations - humates are contraindicated for conifers. Humic fertilizers will be useless for legumes, corn and sunflower.

Effect of humic fertilizers on plants:

How to use liquid humic fertilizers: types of fertilizing

Plants are fed with humic fertilizers in three ways.

1. Presowing treatment.
2. Foliar top dressing.
3. Root dressing.

Presowing treatment

Such treatment is done by soaking seeds and tubers in a 0.05–0.1% solution of the preparation for a period of 18 to 36 hours. This is beneficial for seeds with reduced sowing qualities and reduced infection. And also pre-sowing treatment increases seed germination in difficult conditions: frost, temperature extremes, high humidity, drought, and poor soil.

Foliar dressing

Foliar top dressing is a conventional spraying or, as it is also called, leaf treatment. When processing on a leaf, the fertilizer solution is quickly and efficiently absorbed, and the result is already visible in two to three days. The action of one foliar feeding lasts approximately three weeks.

Leaf processing with humates should be done at least twice a season: the first time when the leaf is formed; the second after flowering, when the development of the fetus begins. Do not overuse foliar processing and carry it out more often than once every two weeks.

Processing is carried out with a 0.5–1% fertilizer solution - in no case with a concentrate! It is necessary to apply the solution both to the upper part of the sheet and to the lower one. It is believed that there are more pores on the bottom of the sheet and better absorption occurs.

Root dressing

Root feeding is the introduction of a solution of the drug into the trunk circle or garden bed. In simple words - under the root of the plant.

Fruit and berry and vegetable crops require 3-4 root feeding per year. This is usually done:

• two weeks after sowing;
• during flowering;
• in the initial phase of active fruiting;
• in the second phase of fruiting, to prolong its duration and abundance.

Recommendations for feeding horticultural crops

Eggplants, tomatoes, as well as peppers of all kinds are fertilized in several stages. The first is the processing of planting material by soaking in a 0.1% fertilizer solution for 24 hours. Second, the seedlings of these plants are fertilized by the root method before transplanting to the main place. After that, you can act according to the above scheme, namely: feed during the flowering period and in two phases of fruiting. Here you can alternate the bait, for example, spray it in the flowering phase, and in the fruiting phase introduce fertilizer under the root, and so on.

Zucchini, squash and cucumbers are fed throughout the entire period of growth and development - from seed treatment to the extreme phase of fruiting. The technology for pre-sowing seed preparation of these plants must necessarily include drying and germination in the traditional way. And it is also important to process these crops when they are in unfavorable conditions - in dry or waterlogged soil, during sudden cold snaps. In this case, it is better to process cucumbers on a leaf.

Before planting, potato tubers should also be soaked in a 0.5% solution of a humic preparation for a day. Further, the potatoes need to be sprayed 2-3 times as they grow.

In order for the cuttings of flowers to take root faster, they need to be placed on one side 1/3 part in a 0.5% solution of humic fertilizer. Soaking time 24 hours. The same applies to grape shanks. And it is also necessary to soak the bulbs and tubers of flowers in a solution before planting.

For trees and shrubs, humic fertilizers are useful at any stage of development. The first foliar top dressing is done in the spring, with the threat of recurrent frosts. Then root feeding is needed every 3-4 weeks. A solution of the drug is introduced into the root zone during flowering, during the formation of ovaries and before the onset of leaf fall.
