How to plant zinnias for lush blooms.
Many owners of summer cottages and their own backyards make great efforts to decorate flowers with their blooming appearance as long as possible. One of the popular long-flowering options is zinnia. It begins to bloom in July and pleases us with its beautiful appearance until September.
Tips for planting and growing zinnia.
In order for zinnia to bloom as long as possible and have beautiful lush inflorescences, you must adhere to the following recommendations:
Zinnia seedlings are grown in boxes or greenhouses, and then only planted in flower beds.
These flowers love warmth, so they should not be sown outdoors. Some growers try to do without seedlings, but as a result, not all seeds sprout or zinnias grown in this way then bloom very weakly. Therefore, to achieve the desired result, use the seedling method of growing flowers.
How to get healthy seedlings?
Zinnia seedlings are often grown in greenhouses. Experienced flower growers sow flower seeds in large containers, you can take voluminous flower pots. Sowing is usually carried out in April. If the flowers have sprung up too densely, then some can be planted in flower beds, and the rest of the seedlings can be left in a pot, which should be taken out into the street.
The zinnia will grow and look like a bouquet. Florists very often grow zinnia in the "bouquet" way.
If you nevertheless decide to plant zinnia in flower beds, then just turn the pot of seedlings over and it will easily fall out into your hands with an earthy clod around the roots.
How exactly is the sowing of seedlings carried out?
Zinnia seedlings can be purchased at the store. After pouring it into large containers, level the ground and place the seeds evenly. Then moisten them with a spray bottle and sprinkle with a thin layer of soil.
If you want to get zinnia seedlings as soon as possible, cover the sown flowers with plastic wrap. The container with zinnia should be in a warm place. When the first shoots appear, transfer the seedlings to a bright place. Water the flowers without letting the soil dry out.
Zinnia can be either short or tall. If you sowed the second option, then when the fourth leaf appears, the plant must be pinched, otherwise it will simply stretch out and will not give side shoots.
It is very important to remove the seedlings from the pot correctly: do not pull out the flowers separately, but remove everything at once with an earthen ball. Thus, the root system will not be disturbed and zinnias will be accepted in a new place much faster.
It is best to plant zinnia with bushes of several plants. So they will look like a beautiful lush bouquet.
In addition to an attractive appearance, the "bouquet" method of transplanting has other advantages: the plants take root better and begin to bloom earlier.
