A distinctive feature of a well-kept courtyard is the presence of garden paths in it. It is convenient, and most importantly - beautiful! There are many materials from which you can build a garden path - you just need to make the right choice. IN the first and second parts we examined: crushed stone, asphalt, concrete, concrete and stone paving stones, polymer sand tiles. Like it, read the next part of the review!

Garden path made of natural stone

Natural stone is a material in demand in landscape design. Nature has awarded him with aesthetics, high strength and resistance to external influences. The stone can be called eternal, since it does not rot, is not afraid of: moisture, frost, heat, ultraviolet radiation. It is worth noting the environmental friendliness of natural stone.

For the construction of garden paths, flagstone (flat stone slabs) of rocks are suitable: slate, sandstone, granite, marble, gneiss, basalt, quartzite. The paving procedure itself is not very different from the construction of a paving path: you also need to remove the top layer soil, create a drainage cushion of rubble and sand, compact it and lay the flagstone on a sand-cement mixture. Curbs can or can be dispensed with.

And there are also options for laying without problems - a heavy flagstone is simply laid on the lawn. You can use any layout order, for example, by step width or laid out in the style of a regular track. This path is attractive, easy to walk and perfect for a garden and recreation area. But it is completely unsuitable for a trolley and moving weights, and therefore, it is not recommended for the way to a barn, garage, or vegetable garden.

Of the minuses of natural stone, the high cost of both material and work stands out. The stone, if not cut to the size of the tile, requires careful fitting. Another disadvantage is the trauma hazard of some rocks in winter - during frost, an ice crust often forms on the surface of granite and marble.

Clinker brick garden path

This material is an excellent alternative to paving stones, especially since their laying technology is very similar. Among the advantages of clinker bricks, in addition to high strength, abrasion resistance, moisture resistance, it is worth noting an attractive appearance: fired clinker has an excellent color. And also bricks can be laid out in different patterns - this expands the possibilities of decoration. There are practically no downsides to the material: only a relatively high price should be highlighted.

Garden path made of wood

In this case, both boards and cuts are used - there are many options for the construction of wooden paths. To make the wood less contact with moisture, it must be raised slightly above the ground - to build a path in the form of a bridge. For this, a base should be made of metal or wood.

Oak and larch are rightfully considered the best species for paths. Suitable for use: ash, beech, pine and spruce. Do not use: aspen, birch, elm, poplar, linden.

If you lay wooden elements on the ground, you need to build drainage from sand or gravel under them. A gap should be left between the boards of the path, as the wood swells when wet. And it is also necessary to treat the wood with impregnations to protect it from decay, mold and ultraviolet radiation.

Saws are often used to construct paths. It is better to lay them on a compacted sandy surface. The saw cut should always be laid upside down: this is due to the wood structure - in this position it absorbs moisture less.

The advantages of wood can be called aesthetic component and environmental friendliness: wood is the purest building material with an attractive structure. Wood has a lot of disadvantages: decay, mold, insects. Wood underfoot on the street is not a very durable material. And also wood tends to get dirty, and it is difficult to clean.
