My last year's experience in creating Modern Narrow Gardens. This year I will definitely do the same

Organizing a garden space is a challenging and exciting task at the same time. You can plant everything in picturesque chaos, act according to retro textbooks for agriculture, equip tiered beds.

But based on personal experience, I can say that the so-called narrow beds are especially interesting. I created them last year and have already decided that I want to work with them in this one.

The width of such beds is only 40-50 cm, and the recommended width of the paths should exceed them 2 times, that is, be 80-100 cm. The length of the beds, theoretically, can be any, but it is desirable to orient them from north to south - for maximum illumination of the plants.

Almost any vegetable crops can be grown on them, which are planted in 2-3 rows, and small-seeded, for example, radishes and all kinds of greens, even more often.

Sometimes the plantings are staggered - so they will "bathe" in the sun longer and are better blown by the breeze.

These narrow beds, which are fashionable today, have a lot of advantages. For example, it is very convenient to approach them from any side, just handle and loosen everything. Part of the work can be carried out sitting side by side on a low bench and gradually moving along.

Thanks to special planting patterns, when the aisles are left as narrow as possible, the growing aerial part of cultivated plants remarkably suppresses weeds.

As for the practical steps for creating narrow beds, they can be presented in the following sequence:

1. The site is cleared of weeds, dug up and level the ground.

2. For ease of marking, prepare a rail, the length of which with marks corresponds to the width of the bed and the passage.

3. With the help of wooden pegs and laces, as well as slats, future rows and beds are marked.

4. With a rake, they rake the soil to the middle of the beds from their edges and passages, level it. As a result, the beds should turn out to be slightly higher than the paths. This is normal given that the soil will settle down a bit later on.

5. Having outlined the beds, earthen ridges about 10 cm high and about 5 cm wide are created along their perimeter. The rollers can be replaced with boards made of boards or slate pieces, the main thing is that these fences will direct the water supplying the plantings.

6. Fertilizers are applied to the ground in the beds and once again they dig everything up, covering them up.

After the last step, the beds are finally ready to use.
