How to protect apple trees from aphids.
Apple trees can be found in every garden. These trees are quite unpretentious to the soil and easy to care for. But still, there are a number of pests that need to be rid of apple trees in early spring. One of the most common can be called aphids.
What threatens an apple tree with the appearance of aphids
First, the decline in yield. Aphids draw juice from young leaves and shoots, preventing the growth of large and healthy fruits.
Secondly, the tree cannot develop and grow normally. Young shoots die, old ones dry up over time. Such a process can lead to the final death of the plant.
How to find out that aphids have appeared on an apple tree
The leaves of the apple tree begin to curl inward. If you unfold the leaf, then you can find small black insects. The leaf becomes dry, as the aphid draws out all the juice from it. Aphids can be placed not only on the leaves, but also on the tree trunk. Also, if there are aphids on the tree, ants will appear, which feed on the sweet secretions of aphids. They also carry aphid larvae through trees. If you want to get rid of pests, you also need to kill ants.
How to destroy aphids
The treatment of apple trees from pests should be carried out in early spring, when the first buds appear. At this time, the aphid larvae, which hibernated on old leaves and under the bark, begin to wake up. And, of course, they immediately start eating. During the first treatment, the aphid dies and this gives a chance that it will not appear again. But the trouble is that the second generation of aphids can fly. If during processing not all insects have died or untreated trees are nearby, the plant will again take a liking to the plant.
There are several ways to combat aphids. The easiest way is to spray the tree with special solutions that can be purchased at any garden store. For the first treatment, a nitrafen solution (3%) is suitable, and when the leaves appear, you can use a 0.1% solution of karbofos or 0.2% chlorophos solution.
If the tree is carefully processed, it is unlikely that the pests will reappear. But you should carefully monitor the condition of the apple trees and apply the next treatment in time. If you do not want to use chemicals, then you can prepare some folk remedies that will not harm your health when eating the fruits.
Tobacco solution is a popular remedy. To prepare it, you need to take 10 liters of water, add 400 g of tobacco dust and 4 tablespoons of grated laundry soap there. Trees can be treated with such a solution several times, but it must be prepared immediately before use.
